Children's book about a girl who is placed in foster care. Not quite YA, perhaps middle grade. I read this between 1975 and 1985. All I remember is that the girl has lived with a great-grandmother or -aunt for as long as she can remember but eventually is placed in foster care. When once she is brought to visit the relative, they don't recognize each other, the relative because she's had a stroke, the girl because the relative had dyed her long hair to appear young to her charge but now in hospital has short white hair. I bracket it with Toby Lived Here and the The Pinballs.
