This novel or short was about a group of British people that for some reason have to walk through a desert or valley and there are these horror episodes with a monster or creature that makes these rumbles that make the whole valley tremble. they group are not adventurers, they are not ready, they are not dressed for a journey and they are thirsty.
also this was adapted for a vintage tv series that was made of a voice that read the story over drawings (as in static pictures) so it wasn't animated. it was a collection of drawings.
Was it a children's book? What year / decade did you read it - or what year did you see the TV adaptation? Could the TV series be Jackanory? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacka...
no thats not it. it in old/vintage. maybe early 20th or late 19th century. I remember the title to be something like "rumble in something-ville" but i have searched every iteration of that. so i could be very far off.
