I don't like to be dependent of the goodwill of some company. Subscribing to a service doesn't give me the guarantee that everything will be available forever. Just like with music or movies, content just disappears from any of those services. So I would rather own the digital copy (and why not through a third-party instead of the publisher).
Wait... Comixology actually does delete purchases of digital comics after you return them? ... That is a thing?

That seems like a path ripe for abuse. I haven't logged into Comixology since Amazon bought them.

I'm with you. I'd always rather own it myself and keep a copy. Anything else is just "renting", despite what they call it.

So one thing to remember when you buy digital; you don't actually buy A PRODUCT, you buy A LICENSE to use/play/view the product. It is even stated as such in the receipt when you make the purchase and most of the time the license is defined as an endless one time subscription purchase. Because of this the company behind the service has the right to cancel and remove the content of the license. It is not a good move of them to do so, but they do have the legal right.
eh, I've been paying monthly subscription for a long time tho I don't consume as much... for me, it's to look into omnis I might be interested in collecting, that and the indie underground releases

I don’t think blockchain would really add anything there. ComiXology was heartbreaking! It’s nice to see the industry trying to get out from under that.
Despite Amazon’s disaster, I still like digital and subscription services - I have not the shelving for all the comics I wish to read or the games I wish to play.
I may try a digital subscription for manga eventually. I haven't spent the time checking out my options there but it would probably save me a fair amount of money as fast as I can read some of that content. There is a fair amount free online and I've read some on my phone.
The Shonen Jump app is very good and has a cheap subscription. Obviously limited to Shonen Jump though.

Comixology has fallen apart. Lots of people seem to have Marvel Unlimited and DCs digital service. Is there a place for all the independents? Seems like there could be.
In this day and age do people prefer the subscription method or would you rather buy your own digital copy that hopefully is secure and always there on a third party site?
