A few years ago, 5-8 specifically, I read a certain book that caught my heart like we were star crossed lovers. I've been trying to find this book for years upon years to no avail, even coming to the consideration that my whole memory of the storyline and characters were of a dream I had when I was younger. But I remember so many things about this book so clearly that I'm sure it MUST be real. Please help me, it'd make my year! ❤️
This book is for young adult readers, and depicts the life of a teenage boy who has the ability to turn himself invisible (to be specific this includes clothing and things he holds), and he can also hop dimensions. As this was a while ago, it is highly possible that instead of being able to hop dimensions, he can simply jump timelines. The boy does go to a school in this book, and I believe he either owns a dog or a dog with an unknown owner follows him around. There is a house that this boy walks to, which looks very worn and quite abandoned from the outside. However when he looks inside, the house is perfectly kept and is actually quite nice. Later in the book I believe he is in a room of this house where there is a rug or tapestry that is faded because of the sunlight hitting it. Additionally, when he looks out the window while inside the house, the gardens and lawn do not look overgrown like they do when observing from the outside, they are very well kept and tidy. I believe that there is also a gardener of this property (he may also be the owner of the house, I am unsure), who speak in a "southern accent", with dialogue such as: "aye, yer" and the like.
In the desperate dimension/timeline that the teenager visits, the civilization is quite more advanced than his own, however the gap between wealth and poverty is much more significant. Rich people run the world and governments, have machines (this may be my memory creating false parts of the book) that can teleport the users and the poor, less fortunate people rely on boiled water and rats to survive.
I also recall a part of the book where the teenager is in his own dimension/timeline, setting up vegetable dishes and these vegetables had been genetically modified and engineered to increase things like size, sweetness and nutrients. The vegetables practically (or literally), come to life and make a huge mess of the dinner table.
If anyone can help me find this book I would be so very happy, I've looked for years and years and still haven't managed to find it. Thank you all and I'm glad I joined this community, after reading a few posts from members and the moderators I sense that this is a close and great community to be a part of.
P.S Please disregard any spelling or grammar mistakes, I type very fast and my autocorrect is kind of unreliable.
