I also posted this in another group and someone pointed out this insists upon a subscription -- sorry for that. I really dislike not being able to share info in such cases. If anyone has a WSJ subscription perhaps they might post a link here so the entire article is available. It truly is a very interesting review and loaded with interesting info about Moncrieff. I am definitely going to pick up the book.

Just read another interesting article about this book, which I definitely want to read after finishing 'In Search of Lost Time' in the MKE translation.http://www.newyorker.com/books/page-t...
This article suggests that Moncrieff's translation was influenced by Henry James' memoirs, and quotes some passages from James which do sound very Proustian and make me want to read those too!

Very interesting, Judy. Thanks for posting the link. I know the author of the article is referring to James' memoirs, but I immediately thought of HJ when I started the first book of the Moncrieff.
For some reason the similarity hadn't struck me at all, Teresa - but I can really see it now.
