Can you read all books on kindle without kindle unlimited?

I want to buy a kindle but I don’t know if I have to have kindle unlimited

You don't need to have KU. I own a kindle and don't have a subscription. I can download books from Amazon and read them just fine.

I would like to add that Amazon is doing this thing where they allowing people to have kindle unlimited two months free you should join if you want.
