Children's Picture book series. Two? children make believe using household items and then go on adventures. They spread a cloth over a clothes horse & suddenly they're in a tent in the desert; etc. Published late 1980s/mid 1990s in UK?

I'm looking for a young children's book series about these 2(?) Children who make believe things using household objects and then they go on adventures
For example they spread a cloth over a clothes horse and then all of a sudden they are in a tent in the desert and the book plays out an adventure as if they are really there. Then at the very end they're back in their own living room again. That example was not definitely in the book, that is just an example to explain how it worked.
There was more than one of the books and they had different coloured block covers, blue, green and yellow I think.
They were picture books with coloured illustrations and I'm based in the UK so I can bet they were UK published. I read these when I was very young, so looking at late 80s-mid 90s publication date.
