I liledd the ending, which brought my rating up! I like academic satires in general, having spent time in graduate school. But I agree this one wasn't that special.
People gave this mixed reviews. I gotta kick out of Arthur and I suppose that was necessary to enjoy the book.
I did not care for this one. I remember that I was turning 50 around the time that Arthur Less was turning 50. And his attitude really bothered me. I pretty much wrote a scather. Which I think you guys and it was weird for me. But something about this pulled me out into rare form.
For some reason, even though you didn't like this one too much, this is the first time I've read anything about it that intrigued me. I'm thinking I might like it, lol.
I think that you may like it too Anita, It was just ok for me, but knowing your taste in reading I am pretty sure this one is a good one for you.

I had heard such good things about this book that I was really looking forward to it, but in the end, I don’t have strong feelings either way, and the book seemed to lack direction for large parts. Arthur Less, the protagonist, seemed very self-absorbed as he travelled around the world to not have to face up to the fact that his boyfriend of the previous nine years was getting married, with a lot of Arthur’s time spent thinking mainly about what it means to be turning 50 in a couple of months. There are some amusing bits in this book, but I really didn’t like the ending, which brought my rating down.
