Do you need help?

"Goodreads considers the following to be valid book records:
[....]
short stories published online (the format should be "ebook") "

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Also a good deal of those stories has been collected by Scott Alexander's fans and made into to epub with his permission. See for instance:

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Do you have a link to "valid publishers"?

BTW is discussion is on Reddit. Reddit is not the publisher.

message 9: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments I have been reading that section of the Librarian Manual again. As far as I understand

"short stories published online (the format should be "ebook")" are valid record (https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...)

provided that they are not part of Magazines or only published in an anthology or magazine (https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...)

If I am wrong, please post the link so I can learn.

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Some of the blog posts are sold on Amazon:

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Here is another version on Amazon:

message 13: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments I think a lot of the older story were published on archive of our own and fanfiction.net (and possibly also Wattpad). I do not have the links. Please do not deleted the existing stories.

message 14: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments So what would it take for me to be able to review the new stories on Goodreads?

message 15: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments But why?

What do you or Goodreads gain by doing that?

As a user I want to be able to post links to stories and recommend them to other users. I want to keep track of what I have read so I can find them again many years into the future. Why do Goodreads want to prevent that?

Corinne wrote: "there are other sites that let you add individual stories "

So you are seriously suggesting that the solution is to go somewhere else? That does not sound like taking care of users.

message 16: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Unsong is also here as print:
https://www.lulu.com/shop/scott-alexa...

Please add this version, so it does not get deleted.

You would need to address the specific issues with Goodreads. Librarians do not have input into those policies.
She was just offering you an alternative that she is aware of, as a courtesy.

As Corinne mentioned we would be happy to add books from Amazon, Lulu, etc.

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Just in case anyone else is reading this tread and worry about having their review deleted because Goodreads do not like short stories:

You can export your books hereto keep a record locally:
https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

Yes, I noticed that short stories are to be marked “invalid” not deleted. BUT that is only for those published in a magasine.

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Does "can" mean it is impossible or it is not policy?

Since the end of 2022 about 2000 pages has gone missing from my 2022-stat (this one: https://www.goodreads.com/review/stat... ). So either some librarians still delete book records or this is very new.

2021 used to be the year I had read most pages in. Now it has dropped below 2019. It is so annoying.

message 20: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Is there a way I can see what I have read that is "invalid"?

message 21: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments I found one at random:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

This used to be a 16 page short story. It has now become a 1 page audiobook - and invalid.

message 22: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Found one more:
NOT A BOOK by Jorge Luis Borges
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
(actually I would love to read a story by Borges called 'Not a Book')

Unfortunately unless it has been published on its own outside of the magazine, it doesn't count, and being read on a podcast doesn't qualify. It has to have a "book" version (published on its own) before appearing within a podcast.
That's why the policy says
"podcasts of books" with "books" in bold print
Corinne's example above is the best one.

The only thing I can find is that it is part of a magazine called Cast of Wonders, and was read on their podcast.

message 25: by J_BlueFlower (new)

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 493 comments Yes, I understand it was not published separately. The question was if there is a way I can see what I have read that is "invalid"? I was just looking for examples.

I have also tagged one of them as "invalid" and that works fine.

Closing and archiving this thread. Please note that we don't approve of speaking to Librarians in the abovementioned tone. The Group is currently experiencing a backlog and we appreciate your patience while they work through requests.
