This question was provided by Corinna Turner:

Nowadays, in many countries, the parents of a disabled child can have the child killed (through abortion), even right up until birth, as almost happens to Miri. In the same countries, disabled people usually enjoy considerable rights and protections once they are born.
- Do you think there is an inconsistency in the way disabled people are treated in these countries?
- Why/Why not?
- Why do you think such an inconsistency is not more generally recognized?
- Do you think the legalisation of abortion poses a threat to already born disabled people as well as those still in the womb?

Yes, there is a clear inconsistency. In some countries or parts of countries they allow abortions until birth, and immediately the child has been born, killing it is considered infanticide and punished. What's the difference between a child just before being born and just after? Only that a blood vessel (that joining the navel with the placenta) has been cut. This distinction is irrational.

Defense of abortion goes against science. Biologists are very clear that a new individual starts at fecundation of the ovule by the spermatozoon. Those biologists who favor abortion don't lean on scientific reasons, but in legal reasons, such as: "it's a question for parliaments and governments to decide." The same reason adduced by Hitler to kill Jews and other people.

I have read articles by "medical ethicists" that acknowledge that there is no moral difference between killing a baby in the womb immediately prior to birth and infanticide, then come to the conclusion that therefor infanticide ought to be permitted for some period of time following birth.

The ongoing sexual revolution is not feasible without abortion and abortion "rights" activists are never satisfied. The law in Mississippi that was challenged and led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade was more permissive than most abortion laws in Europe. Even in Florida, a new law passed last year allows abortion with no limits until 15 weeks, though a new bill is working its way through the legislature to reduce that to 6 weeks with exceptions for the life of the mother and, prior to 15 weeks, rape or incest, with the additional evidentiary requirements in the latter cases.
