i'm new to annotating and i need help

hi! i'm thinking of annotating but i'm scared of marking up my books. what are your thoughts on annotating?

I don't like writing or highlighting in my books either as my handwriting is not pretty. 😂 I would recommend using transparent sticky notes. You can have a color coding system with favorite quotes, favorite moments, color code it by character (like main female character, main male character, etc.), however you want to do it.

That way you're not marking up your book, can still make notes and not have to lift up sticky notes to read the pages still.

i used to never want to write in my book cause i loved them looking brand new but i started annotating my books cause i just love being able to grab the book off my shelf and look through all my favorite scenes! i usually don’t write my thoughts just highlight/underline!

i don’t write in my books because i know i will just make it look messy, so i just bought a pack of tabs on Amazon and just tab my favorite parts!

I mark my books with single highlighter all throught the book. I don't color code my books. I mark it with my pen and draw hearts and stars to make it fancy. I click a pic so that I can post it online on my Instagram page...

I think a good way to start is probably by just getting a pack of transparent coloured tabs and colour coding them with a system you like, personally I use 2-5 colours in each book with tabs in each colour matching the cover of the book (like for ugly love I used blue as the main tab and then pink and yellow for good quotes and funny moments), I feel like to properly annotate a book it should be one you are confident will be 5 stars cos I know for me I would get bored and not want to annotate it in so much detail, hope that helps <3

i think that its your book, and its there for your enjoyment. if you enjoy annotating (if you haven’t yet, give it a try) then its fine to mark up your books. my biggest tip is to use a book marker to make your lines straight when underlining :)
