Carolyn | 1630 comments Devil's Kitchen by Candice Fox Devil's Kitchen by Candice Fox is a fast paced thriller featuring a band of NY firefighters who are heroes and criminals at the same time. Fast paced and suspenseful!

PattyMacDotComma | 1260 comments I was glad to hear Aussie author and former journo Tim Ayliffe say he plans to continue his John Bailey series in and around Sydney. I just enjoyed the latest, #5, The Wrong Man. I know those parts of Sydney but luckily not the dangerous kinds of people Bailey gets mixed up with.
The Wrong Man (John Bailey #5) by Tim Ayliffe My review of The Wrong Man

PamG (lynguy1) | 2541 comments Here is my 4.48 rounded to 4 stars review of Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romantic Suspense
Great Premise
Decent World-building and characterization
I wanted a little more closure on a couple of things in the ending.

Liz | 1127 comments I thought Holy Island Holy Island (DCI Ryan Mysteries, #1) by L.J. Ross was a police procedural but it was more sleazy romance. My 1 star review:

PamG (lynguy1) | 2541 comments Here is my 4.34 rounded to 4 stars review of The Burning by Linda Castillo:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Crime Thriller / Police Procedural
Darker than usual - The novel is graphic in places and the murder descriptions are brutal at times.
Excellent Characterization, Briskly Paced, Suspenseful, Gripping

The Burning (Kate Burkholder, #16) by Linda Castillo

PattyMacDotComma | 1260 comments It sounds macabre when a police archaelogist draws a map of an area in LA where old remains are found and titles it a City of Bones, but it makes perfect sense in Michael Connelly's 8th Harry Bosch novel. Another great read.
City of Bones (Harry Bosch, #8; Harry Bosch Universe, #11) by Michael Connelly My review of City of Bones

PamG (lynguy1) | 2541 comments Here is my 2.8 rounded to 3 stars review of The Book of Elsewhere by Keanu Reeves and China Miéville:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Military Thriller / Science Fiction
This one didn't quite work for me. Stylistically different, the writing style felt uneven and unfocused at times which adversely affected the flow. It's also non-linear.
Despite this, it has a great premise and is thought-provoking.
This may appeal more to those familiar with the world of the BRZRKR comic books.

The Book of Elsewhere by Keanu Reeves

PamG (lynguy1) | 2541 comments Here is my 3.15 rounded to 3 stars review of One of the Boys by Jayne Cowie

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Dystopian Near-Future Britain
Mystery
Science Fiction

Provocative, Intriguing, and Disturbing
However, the twists were relatively easy to see coming.
The Story is told from 4 different points of view that goes backwards and forwards in time and adversely affects the pacing for me.

One of the Boys by Jayne Cowie

message 1876: by Alan (new)

Alan | 41 comments Zacher’s characters may present themselves as sometimes pitiable and rough around the edges, but one can’t help but cheer for them to get in there, take one for the team, and—in their own quirky ways—win at the Game of Life… Whether they succeed or not is simply a matter of perspective but the adventures they endure are all in good fun.

All in all, “Murder, Vampires and Leprechauns” is a good day-long or weekend read that supplies more than a few terrors and many more laughs. Murder, Vampires and Leprechauns by Alan Zacher

message 1877: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 1630 comments In The Lost Victim (Kate Marshall, #5) by Robert Bryndza The Lost Victim by Robert Bryndza is another excellent addition to his Kate Marshall series in which Kate' PI agency is hired to investigate a twenty year old cold case of a missing teenager with possible links to her one time lover and serial killer.
