We will read the book over six weeks. Again, there are two versions of the book: one with 31 chapters and one with 36 chapters. I will be reading the version with 31 chapters and the schedule will reflect those chapter numbers. In case any of you are reading the longer version, I will include the first few words of each segment for the week, and the last few words, so you can find your place (since I'm not sure of the placement of the extra five chapters).

Week 1 (March 12-19): Chapters 1-5 (From the beginning to "his faith in America.")

Week 2 (March 19-26): Chapters 6-11 (From "Jurgis and Ona were very" to "the little rascal!")

Week 3 (March 26-April 2): Chapters 12-18 (From "For three weeks after" to "away at a run.")

Week 4 (April 2-9): Chapters 19-23 (From "Madame Haupt, Hebamme" to "in delirium.")

Week 5 (April 9-16): Chapters 24-27 (From "In the face of all" to "would flicker out.") Content warning for some antisemitism and anti-Black racism in this section; it's unclear to me whether that's coming from the author or just some of the characters.

Week 6 (April 16-23): Chapters 28-31 (From "After breakfast Jurgis" to end)
