Please list any books you'd like to recommend/suggest for our April group read.

Karin | 630 comments In light of Dosha's request for lighter reading for April what aboutThe Field Guide to the North American Teenager by Ben Philippe Ben Philippe ? He's sort of multinational, born in Haiti, raised in Montréal, went to college in the States and now lives in NYC.

Or, one I haven't read yet, but that is marked humour as well as memoir, Sure, I'll Be Your Black Friend: Notes from the Other Side of the Fist Bump I am not sure that this will be light, but it's been shelved humor nearly as many times as race--actually, if you count the humour shelf, more times. Mistakenly shelved African-American more often than Canadian, but that's not unusual in my experience.

Hey Group,

Right now, we only have two suggestions which is really great but for the poll we’d like to have at least five.

The last day to recommend a book will be 3/15/2023. The poll will be open on the 16th and run through the 23rd.

Please, if anyone wants to nominate a book for April drop it in the thread 😊

Angel | 490 comments I know this may not be a light hearted read but it sounds interesting. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I would like to nominate The Best of Simple by Langston Hughes. It is lighthearted fun and sheds a light on Mr. Hughes sense of humor.

Ok, there's five noms here so I'm going to create the poll.

They're all great suggestions. Can't wait to see what we're reading in April 😀

Thanks! I love that idea better than the one I nominated. However, the poll is leaning to a darker novel so far. But I am going to try to avoid those for April since it's tax month, etc.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments What are we reading as a group for April?

Hey Dosha,

Nightcrawling won the poll. So we’ll be reading that in April.

Hey Group!

Would anyone like to volunteer to lead the group discussion for the month of April?

message 15: by Karin (new)

Karin | 630 comments Sorry, I'm going to bow out of this book since I already have a couple of heavier books in my April pile and am finally going to read Kindred which is on the heavy side of my April reading pile.

message 16: by Angel (new)

Angel | 490 comments I went ahead and bought both Night Crawling and The Best of Simple so I would like to re nominate the Best of Simple for the following month.

Yes, I'd also like to re-nominate The Best of Simple

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I also would like to re-nominate The Best of Semple.
