Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I finished the book last night. I really liked the previous book I read by you, Mastodon, but I think this one was even better! As someone who is inspired by music, I love that you included a playlist.

Char | 17459 comments I just finished! Yay for Bruiser!
I enjoyed what you did here, Steve. I felt the cold in my bones. I wouldn’t last for five minutes out there!
More to come later because you’ve kept me up too late and I need to be up early tomorrow. Well done, my friend!

message 109: by Evie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Evie Tancredo | 19 comments I just finished Churn the Soil less than 10 minutes ago, and it was fantastic!!!! One of my biggest pet peeves is books/stories that don't give me a clear picture of what the "big bad" is or some sort of origin story for the big bad. It took a minute to get there, but I was so pleased that both of those things were answered for me! I loved Graham, Reynolds, and Patrick but I will admit that my heart belonged to Nancy and Bruiser. Nancy was such a string, likable character in the midst of all the monsters and men who really held her own. She's definitely not a damsel-in-distress type. And Bruiser.... Ahhhhh who doesn't love a big, cuddly puppy that can aviserate monsters?!?! Really enjoyed this book and my first 5 star of March. Now I need to read your other book, Mastodon!

Steve, do you have any future plans for Basco or the Border?

Thank you, Char! So glad you dug it!

I haven't thought of anything for revisiting Basco, but in the back of my mind, I have been wondering if Nancy and Bruiser might need to have another adventure again!

Marie | 4029 comments I am still in the midst of it - 50% into the book and now I am biting my nails! lol I need to buy some better snacks! lol :)

Jennifer | 450 comments I'm starting it tonight. I got delayed a little bit as my partner wants to see the D&D film and I heard there are prequel novels so I had to read those first. If I know there's a book relating to anything I have to read them first.

They were okay. One was a fun Marvel type romp through Faerun, the other more of a YA teen girl book.

Now onto Steve's book. I'm really looking forward to it!

Jennifer | 450 comments I've just finished and will be back with another post once I've fully digested it, but wanted to say Wow. I really loved this story.

I was completely hooked from the start and when I wasn't able to read I was thinking about it. It's been a long while since I've had that from a book.

I loved Bruiser and Patrick. They're such a great team. It was really great having Bruiser as part of the main cast.

The worldbuilding and descriptions were great, I could clearly envisage The Border and Basco. The Forest Guard were so unique. The descriptions were just enough that I could imagine what they looked like but not enough that the image was really clear. I liked the vagueness.

The interactions between the cast was really good and realistic. They seemed like really nice people so reading about what they were going through was so nerve wracking.

I thought of The Village film at one point too. But that film was terrible and this book is way way way better.

I'm excited to read more of your work Steve. There's definitely an Amazon order happening very soon!

Can you share with us what you're working on now?

Hey thanks so much! I appreciate that!

As for what I'm working on - hahaha... oh jeez.
Ok - currently working on my autobiography which is interspliced with personal reflections on my favorite authors novels
- novellas 4 and 5 of my The Empyrean Saga sci-fi series
- a novella soon to be announced for a publisher
- finishing up my novel 456 Blatchford Drive which will be out this year
- another draft of the next novel David Sodergren and I are working on
- the third Wagon Buddy novella
- two short stories for two anthology invites
- the first draft of the Mastodon sequel
- a ghost story/haunted town novel.

I think that's it? haha!

No worries! I'm doing it through ACX. The narrator has two chapters left to record and then I'll listen through to approve it. Unfortunately there was an issue with the files being loaded onto ACX but none of the files had anything on them. The narrator's files were good, but the upload did something and it was messed up. Sigh... So here we are!
