I was glad the way the plot unfolded, letting us know something "bigger" was going on there without it really coming out until the end. Guessing book two will have a lot of "lore" and background. I am bracing for data dumps and hoping McClelland does it well. I thought this was a solid start with good characters, but Powder Mage was stronger. (I guess, I'd have to go back and reread book 1 of the original series). Glad Montego goes right to childhood first meetings. Read chapter 1 of that this morning.

Totally. I blame Kickstarters. though it feels like book 2 might be tougher to write and perhaps a longer book since there's a plot to advance while so much out there to explain that was not explained in he first book.

I..."I agree with a lot--I feel like it took me a while to find balance with the story... part of me wishes the book had started with chapter 1 instead of the prologue, so we first meet Demir (view spoiler)
