March 2023 Group Read Nominations
I looked through my to-read list, and I don't have too many horror novels with regular animals. I found a couple.The Thirteenth Cat - It's middle grade, but looks interesting.
A REPTILE DYSFUNCTION: Night of the Jizz Lizards - I don't remember adding this to my list. Well, uh, I suppose it has lizards.
I pick: Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder. It’s about a housewife who turns into a dog. It’s been on my TBR for a while and it sounds pretty wild. 
I'll nominate:Nightwing by Martin Cruz Smith (bats)
Shark Island by Chris Jameson (ibexes; no, I'm kidding, sharks)
That's if we're allowed to nominate two books. If not - I'll stick with Nightwing.
I am very new and this will be my first month, and also this is not a regular animal on the list. But I have had The Roo by Alan Baxter on my list for a little bit. It's also a novella, and didn't know if you wanted longer books. Thanks and can't wait to read along with you all for the first time!

I really had to search my tbr for a book with animals. I was a bit surprised at how few I had so I'm hoping our good HA people can find a pile of animal horror for me to add to my list.

. That rabbit on the cover does NOT look friendly, and the book description talks about "a nightmare of fungal growths and possessed wildlife, surrounding a dark, pulsing lake". I'll nominate that. :-)

this is such a crazy entertaining book. Absolutely loved it and definitely recommend people check it out, but it's not a horror story, more of an 80's style 'buddy cop' action/comedy

One Tough Bastard was a lot of fun. But I didn't think it was horrific. I would be down for a reread of Die Dog or Eat the Hatchet however. Not only did it have horror-themes throughout, Adam Howe is one of the coolest mofo's on the planet. In my opinion one of the best Horror-affiliated authors of the last decade+ who deserves a helluva lot more attention. Should eventually be right up there with King and Lansdale in popularity. I have really liked/loved everything I've read by him. But I believe DDEH was read here a little after it was first released so probably a no-go.

Wow, I'm reading this regardless of how the vote comes out lol.
I myself would like to nominate The Legacy. A kitteh features largely in that story.
I nominate "Last House on Needless Street" by Catriona Ward. It features a talking cat. There are also numerous allusions to birds and snakes. It's terrific.

The theme for March is books revolving around or heavily featuring animals.
Because we want to challenge you to discover something new, the old stand by books most everyone has read or at least heard of will NOT be eligible. These include Cujo, Pet Sematary, Fluke, Watchers, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Meg.
Additionally, we're looking for regular animals - felines, canines, birds, fish, reptiles, etc. CRYPTIDS and INSECTS are their own categories and will not qualify.
--As always, AUTHORS and PUBLISHERS may NOT nominate their own books.
