Well I finished The Slave Girl by Buchi Emecheta. This was set in pre- Independent Nigeria and gave a great look at life for a girl who lived in rural area and became a slave. Love the nuance to the topic of slavery intertwined with the role of women. Definitely an author to read. The only complaint is the latter portions felt rushed.

Ooo Sounds good. Ill have to had it to my wishlist even though I saw another reviewer agree with you about that rushed ending.

I have just finished reading The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden which I had never heard of before I saw it in my local library. It’s inspired by Russian folk tales and is about a girl who can see and talk to the local spirits just at the time that Christianity is arriving in Russia. It was very atmospheric and interesting to read about fairy tale characters which are new to me. However some of the characters were a bit cariacturish so I gave it 3 stars overall.Sarah H
