Okay, I've been trying to find these books for YEARS. I don't even remember for sure if it was one book or a series of them. I read them when I was little, so my memories are a bit fragmented (and maybe even a little wrong, though I doubt that more), but anyway here goes nothing.
The main character is a boy who has one eye of each colour. I don't know why, but he buys/adopts/meets a cat, which ends up taking him to a magical world. In this magical world the cat can talk, and the boy discovers that with the eye of one colour he can see magical things, and with the other he cannot. Also, I kind of remember that there was a lake and magic seal involved in the discovering of the world by this boy?? (but that sounds kinda trippy, so I'm not really sure about it)
He returns to the real world, where he has two sisters. His older sister has only "non-magical" coloured eyes, and his younger sister (who is still a baby) has "magical" coloured eyes.
I don't quite remember how, but at some point the boy finds a dragon in someone's garden in chains and has to free it.
I don't quite remember how either, but the three siblings end up inside the magical world, where it turns out they are like royalty, because their mother was the queen of this place and escaped to the real world.
The older sister is quite confused, as there are things in this another world she can't see because of the colour of her eyes. Of course, there's a very bad guy who has taken over the world (potentially their father from who their queen-mother escaped??) and (again I can't remember exactly how) she ends up in the bad guy's mansion.
A lot of things happen in between that I don't remember, but I do remember the ending. The little sister, who was a baby and is the most magical of them all, magically grows up and ends the book/saga as a teenager, and she kinda saves the day.
Hope you can help me, because I've gone insane trying to find it.
