Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Don't know how many follow the topic, but some say that things like ChatGPT that provides answers rather than search results will eventually replace google's search engine: https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-an...
Meanwhile google attempts to counter with "Bard":

What do you think?

Ian Miller | 1857 comments Something that provides the correct answer rather than Google's answers embedded in a million irrelevancies would be great for scientific searching, where there is an enormous flood of information, but there is also the danger that one answer in an area that is not settled could be misleading. Ultimately, I think it will depend on how flexible the performance is.

Culture Citizen | 30 comments I found it damn funny reading a news bit today about an ad where Bard answered incorrectly about the first satellite scope to see an extra-solar planet.

I think Bruce Sterling would have some things to say....but he don't have no blog no mo.

Yep, and Alphabet's stock took an immediate 100B dive

J. Rubino (jrubino) | 163 comments I don't really get this, though any time I am inclined to fret about AI, I put up a video with the auto-generated captioning. That does ease my mind a bit.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8073 comments No thanks. I don't want pre-digested conclusions made by AI; why should I trust that? I want to arrive at my own conclusions based on research I've done myself.

I wish the majority were like you

Volodymyr Kramar I at last registered in chatGPT today.
And test it for several scenarios.
First of all, it really can be used to make your work more productive.
And about googling- it has really nice advantages too - you can ask needed information and just receive concrete answer without clicking several links and reading any advertisement or irrelevant info.
F.e. “When film X was released?”
Answer: “Film X was released in …”
It’s just faster.
Of course, you still may be needing to double check like for any other information from net.

Good to have a few options to choose from. Gonna try both myself and see where it gets me. I'm just a little afraid that GPT may turn into a "smart" google , providing an authoritative answer that everyone will accept as correct while it can be faulty, incomplete or devoid of nuances
