Lauren | 2168 comments This is regarding this record: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Baring-Gould should more properly be credited as Editor, Notes, and Introductions (rather than as author), as he did not write these songs.

Additionally, Henry Fleetwood Sheppard, Frederick Bussell, and William Henry Hobkinson should be credited for Arrangements (source: https://www.worldcat.org/title/924056520) as they provided the musical arrangements.

Series description:

Please add the following description to all volumes (source: http://www.llanerchpress.com/book/cat...
English Minstrelsie is a collection of old English folk songs gathered together by Sabine Baring-Gould, a prominent Victorian theologian who possessed a vast knowledge of folklore and is best know as the author of the hymn “Onward Christian Soldiers.” In addition to editing the collection, Baring-Gould contributed a comprehensive set of historical introductions, notes, and essays. Musical arrangements were provided by Henry Fleetwood Sheppard, Frederick Bussell, and William Henry Hobkinson. Baring-Gould considered this work to be one of his greatest achievements.

Camille | 2328 comments These books do not qualify as a series in Goodreads.

To be a series on Goodreads, books need to have more than a common theme -- like characters in common, an overarching storyline, a shared universe, etc.

These books can be grouped with a Listopia list.

This was intended to be a single serialized work spread out over eight volumes. GR considers Livy's "History of Rome" and Andrew Lang's Fairy books to be series and so clearly intends multi-volume works to be grouped together as a series.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2325 comments To be honest, it has been a while since I have read any of the Lang books, but I don't think they should be a series.

& they are classic books, yet the series wasn't started until 2020 - often a sign with older books that they may not be a series by GR standards.

It makes sense as a series to me (but that doesn't mean it's compliant with GR), but the series I'm asking about is nonfiction and so has more in common with Livy.
