SOLVED. YA Fantasy. Girl finds alien in the woods, keeps it in her shed. Spoiler ahead. [s]

I read this last year. It was a YA fantasy with a cover depicting a forest. Essentially, the main character went into the forest to set a bunch of traps first made by her father, who disappeared, and finds what appears to be an alien. She and her boy best friend keep it in her shed. While he tries to expose the alien's existence to the rest of the world, she believes the alien is connected to her father and tries to investigate. At the end, we find out the alien was actually her father, incredibly deformed and damaged from something. Help is greatly appreciated.
