30.3 - Cat's Task: Book of the Month

Choose an option.
Required: Indicate the option.

Option 1: TWO book task
Pick one of the months within this season (i.e. March, April, May) and read one book for each of the tasks below.

Book 1: All the letters of your chosen month can be found in the title of your book (ignore subtitles)
Book 2: the author of your book has first and last initials found in your chosen month. Letters may only be used as often as they appear.

Ex. picking the month MARCH
Book 1: The Adventures of Augie March ( "March" is in the title) or Remarkably Bright Creatures
Book 2: A Mirror Mended by Alix E. Harrow (AH in March)

Option 2: ONE book task
Pick one of the months within this season (i.e. March, April, May) and read a book that meets BOTH of option 1's requirements AND is 500+ pages
Task 1: All the letters of your chosen month can be found in the title of your book (ignore subtitles)
Task 2: the author of your book has first and last initials found in your chosen month. Letters may only be used as often as they appear.

Amy | 2170 comments My month is March and I have a question regarding author initials in book 2. I'd like to read Trapper Road by Rachel Caine who passed away before completing this book. Carrie Ryan is the co-author who finished writing the book. Since both authors have initials RC(CR) which are found in MARCH, will this work?

Sorry, default rules apply - single author only.

Eunice | 32 comments Hi, for the two-book option, do their total pages also need to be 500+ pages?

No

Katrisa | 1397 comments For the author initials is it where you can only use them as often as they appear in the month or just that the initials are all in the month? For example if I choose May can the initials be A.A.?

Sorry no, only as often as are in the original word. I'll get that clarified

Fatemeh (alexxy) | 72 comments I found the book The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia, with the month of May in mind for the first book of the first option, but I have the translation which is in Persian (alphabet is different from English). Is it still eligible or should I choose another book?

from the rules:
2. Books in languages other than English may be used. Please provide information on the book and/or title to your English speaking moderators so they can understand how the books fit the tasks. Any task requiring a specific title (number of letters, number of words, specific word in title, etc.) should apply to the title that you use.
If you read an edition in a language other than English:

a) For a task that requires a word in the title you may use a direct word translation, such as required word purple A Cor Púrpura Purple is Púrpura in Portuguese

b) For a task that requires letters or a letter sequence intact, such as "MAN" intact in the title, you must find those letters or sequence of letters in the title you read. You could read Cumanda O Un Drama Entre Salvajes with MAN found intact in that title. You could NOT read The Old Man and the Sea in a foreign translation, such as Il vecchio e il mare as the letter sequence MAN is not found intact in that title.

Dee is correct.
Please link to the edition you would read.

Emily Rawlings | 171 comments Hi, I am so sorry if this is a stupid question, I am new to this and trying to navigate myself through the challenges best I can. For option 1, I think I am getting thrown off by the initials thing, think I am on the right track but would just like clarification before I post in the completed challenges section like a silly billy. Do the books, The happy ever after playlist by Abby Jimenez (APRIL) in the title and Know my name by Chanel Miller (MARCH) in the authors name count? Feel free to call me a silly wackus bonkus if this is a stupid self answered question! Thank you

message 19: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 3382 comments No worries!
Whilst each book works individually, the task requires both books to work for the same month, so you would need to find different books to make a pair. So, if you went with April as your month, you could use the Happily Ever After Playlist for the title, and find a book with author initials in APRIL.
