Subdue the Shelf: What's Next?

@Amy, I may be wrong about this, but there is now a magic trunk in one of the train's cars (the caboose?). You can reach into it and pull out any type of game or puzzle you want.
When I get tired of my day to day, ordinary life, I may just hitch a ride on PBT's train. I'll be a stow-away.

Check out the Next Roll thread, Amy.

Joy has a bottomless Magic truck of games and goodies

You aren't already?!

Find a train uniform Holly and come to the Baggage car, we need a bouncer to keep Theresa from out!

Half of PBT's non-playing members could be stowing away at the front of the train eating and drinking the train dry and no one would know!

Good point!

Oh, I'm already making use of the magic trunk! It contains any extra things we want - puzzles, board games, etc. I added a couple of board games if anyone wants to play. :-) (Settlers of Catan and Carcassonne)

We need those farther along to read faster and get into the Private Cafe Car and the Royal Coach to keep the stowaways out!
Good news to those in Second Class Lounge: a renovated car is replacing the current one at the next supply and fueling stop. It will be fully outfitted including comfy reading chairs with ottomans, upgraded lighting and devices to stream BBC adaptations of classics. There are also attendants pushing around snack and drinks carts at regular intervals - no more dirty glasses, watered down alcohol, and stale saltines.
I hear our new clerks in the caboose raised holy heck with the RR about the poor state os the second Class lounge.
Photos forthcoming.

Well, shoot! Somehow I missed that the magic trunk was NOT in the Caboose! Oops... I can't play myself, then, either.

See what happened? My inserting Tom into the picture raised Theresa's hackles enough for her to do something about the condition of Baggage! Haha! And now Tom can rummage through his baggage and find a book and join us reading. Tom is here for the long haul, enjoy the mature eye candy ladies!

Dog wrangling is fine with me-Cindy gets the mass group of cats. Sorry -more than one or two at one time make me sneeze continuously. I will tolerate them, but shall not take control over them. (As if it's even possible to control cats)!

It is in the caboose as of last night Cindy-pull the game out for yourself and hide it under your books. That way when Joy moves on you have it!

Love the new round rules.

I'm cruising next month and am looking forward to reading with a view of water. Arizona hasn't got much of that resource.

LOL! Sounds good - thank you! Theresa, up for some Carcassonne, then!?

Kudos with a Brava! and standing ovation! (had a bit of opera in my last book)
I would have been happy with a random roll and a slow meander through books I might not have otherwise read. This is so complex yet silly-fun. Thanks to everyone playing along and especially Anita for taking on a lot of work and turning it into even more work! :o

Amy, Mobile librarian sounds pleasant.

I’m really looking forward to those too. I wasn’t sure about … Luis Velez. So I’m especially glad to hear your feedback on it. Thanks Amy.

Lol, I assume you mean you are on a cruise. I took one in December, and the internet was so bad. Honestly, I don't do well when I am disconnected like that! Hope you are somewhere fun.

Ok, I'm going to place my tile here, and put a guy in the city. :-)

LOL! That was one of the things I liked being on cruises. I stayed offline, didn't watch tv, listen to radio, etc etc. Loved it! I could really relax (when I wasn't running around in port doing tours!)

I've placed my castle with a knight...

I was just talking to a patient of mine, who happens to be a veterinary assistant. She was talking about how dangerous lilies are for cats. I never knew that. But it’s like almost fatal for them. So as much as I don’t like this. Gnarly character, apparently it’s really important that people not bring certain flowers on the train.
Look how crazy I have become. I’m actually worried about imaginary flowers from an imaginary cat who I don’t even like on an imaginary train. But I did feel like I had to warn everybody. That should give you a clue to my recent state of mind.

@Amy and @Cora - no different than immersion in a book! It's all in your minds ... or is it? Alternate or parallel universes are real.

Sometimes when I read books set in England between the world wars and everybody is happy WWI is over, I feel bad knowing they and their kids will be in a worse one soon. The positive is extending our empathy. I paid more attention to the news from Afghanistan after I read The Kite Runner, because I "knew" someone from there.

This is true. There are other plants that are dangerous for cats, too, but every year around Easter this reminder always goes out.

I know what you mean. A Thousand Splendid Suns was like that for me. That book was a life changer for many reasons.

I don't do cats-thought I made that clear!

Hey, it's fun in the caboose, right??

The Caboosians know how to par-tay! A few of us don't seem to be moving on any too soon. We have the best amenities, so why should we?

Regarding
a) If you read a book longer than 500 pages you get to roll an extra die for every incremental 100 pages. So a 500 page book let's you roll two dice on your next turn. A 600 page book let's you roll 3 dice, and so on.
How does this work in terms of communicating number of pages for a completed book to qualify for extra dice on the roll? Do we just put it in the thread for roll requests?
Regarding:
b) If you land on a book that has the same tag as the monthly tag, you will get an extra move to use when you wish:
5-25 taggers - move forward 1 space
25-50 taggers - move forward 2 spaces
50-100 taggers move forward 5 spaces
More than 100 taggers - roll two dice
This award must be noted on your tracking thread at the time you land on the book that earns it. The book does not need to be completed/reviewed in the month with the tag . . .this bonus is triggered when you land on the book.
Some of us are starting to accumulate these types of bonuses. How do we use them? Do we just post in the roll request thread or are we free to use them whenever we want without notifying anyone?

Great question. For the page count situation, yes, please just put it in your roll request and maybe let me know the book title so I can double check it. Just a reminder, we use the Amazon hard cover for the definitive page count.
For the tag situation, please note on your tracking that the book fits the tag as soon as you land on it and how many taggers there are.
When you want to actually take your extra move forward, please let me know on your roll request, and I will denote it as your roll plus X. ie. 6-2 (+5). If you want to see your roll first, that's okay, but I do need you to tell me (in the roll request thread) that you are moving additional spaces just so I can note it in my spreadsheet, and Joanne is alerted as well.

Question: Do we go to Amazon to find the hard cover page count or is it clearly listed somewhere in the "edition listings" on GR?

Why thank you! A lawyer's tools are words, language, writing, and using them to weave stories, make arguments, and persuade others to what you need them to do, all part of the art of negotiation. I actually write all day! I find most lawyers I know have a creative side, writing books and poetry, performing in amateur theater, painting, designing or making needlework, building highly original birdhouses.
My efforts would have fallen flat if others had not responded, making awesome contributions. I mean Joanne adds Baggage Car and Lynda describes Second Class, suddenly we have a train., and it has a life of its own. Two of the best additions recently were Amy's gnarly cat and JoyD's magic trunk. Those constant little nuggets all give me and all of you what we need to spin the rest.
