Book and Author: Eruption by Roland Smith
Qualification: Storm Runners #3
Finished: 2/25/23
Rating: 2 stars
Review: Book 3 in The Storm Runners series was really sad. The series had been pretty good up until this book. If you're any ort of animal lover this is not the book for you. There is way too much death and destruction. I just thought the description of finding the animals at the bottom of the cliff with their heads bending in impossible ways was horrible. Add in the blood and gore and yeah, you get my drift. This one had a bit of a paranormal element that was missing out of the first 2 books that honestly was not needed.

Book - Murder at Wedgefield Manor
Author - Erica Ruth Neubauer
Qualification: #2 in the Jane Wunderly series
Finished: 02/25
Rating: 4
Jane is an American widow currently visiting Wedgefield Manor with her aunt, and is enjoying learning to how fly a small airplane. Lord Hughes has other family and friends visiting, as well, and all is going swimmingly until someone dies under suspicious circumstances. Everyone at the manor is immediately considered a suspect, and Jane takes a turn investigating with the help of a recent and competent acquaintance.
This was a great second book in this series, with an exciting finale. The setting of a big country house post-WW I was perfect for this story, and all the characters were well fleshed out and easy to envision. Happily Jane, as the main character, was intelligent and not prone to stumbling about in her investigations, as sometimes amateur sleuths tend to be portrayed. I'm ready to get into the next installment, this time set on another one of my favorite venues, which is a cruise ship

Book - The Well of Ascension
Author - Brandon Sanderson
How it fits:#2 Mistborn series
Pages:763
Ratings: 5 stars
Review: I got GoT vibes throughout the series. Brandon Sanderson has the magic of creating larger than life scenes so well that I couldn't focus on anything else from start till end of the book. The plot was mind-blowing. The twists had me screaming and cursing out loud in disbelief. Action is magnificently written. Incomparable.
The Well of Ascension is the second book of the Mistborn series. Though it is made for a make-believe world, I could relate it with everyday life. This book focuses mainly on political drama and is a little bit slow. The character arc is brilliant.
This book has become one of my favourite fantasy series.

How it Fits: The Goode Life #2

Rating: ★★★★
Review: I am really enjoying this series and kind of breezing right thru them all. They are short and sweet without a lot of angst. I was anxious to get to this book after meeting Web and Jesse in book 1. I just had to know what happened to cause them going from best friends to enemies. Plus as a demisexual myself I really liked the representation. Kale Williams is an amazing narrator and he is doing a fantastic job with this series.

Review:
I wasn't sure how i would go with this as it's been at least a year and a half since I read book 1 but apart from a, few small things, it could almost read as a standalone. In this instalment, Cassie and her parents are in Paris to film her parent's ghost hunting tv show. I loved Paris as the backdrop of this spooky story as a city with so much history and i thought the author used the setting well. I found the ghostly mystery they solved interesting as well. I have always loved a paranormal type story and I will definitely be reading on in this series

Review: Charlie Payne is a psychic/medium that helps out the police at times with some of their cold cases. Her newest case is a woman found impaled on her own fence, It's apparent this is not a falling accident. Based on the projectory it appears that she was pushed off the roof. Charlie and Jason investigate into the case to see who or what could have wanted this woman dead. Meanwhile Charlie is also being visited by some ghost children who disappeared many years ago. While doing all this she also woks a full time job and she is battling her narcissistic and controlling ex-husband for custody of their 11 year son.
There was ALOT going on in this installment. It felt like it could have been broken up into two books at times. I was hoping for the 2 stories to have some sort of connection to each other, but that never happened. The books are fun and at times a bit scary especially when you are driving at night on a very dark road and it gets to the part about the spirit crawling out of the mirror towards someone and trying to choke them. To be honest it made me a bit apprehensive to look into my own rear view mirror for fear I would see something there.

Book - Murder at the Village Fete
Author - Catherine Coles
Qualification: #2 in the the Tommy and Evelyn Christie series
Finished: 03/04
Rating: 4
Tommy Christie and his wife, Evelyn, are newly minted aristocracy in 1920's Yorkshire, and this week are hosting the local village at their property. They're also hosting her parents along with other dignitaries, for a few days' stay. One, a local Member of Parliament who was obnoxious and demanding, was discovered the following morning face down in the stream. Was his death politically motivated or personal? The Christies, previously employed by the police department, have the experience to assist in the investigation, and don't hesitate to jump in. Even feisty Aunt Em offers her observations.
I enjoyed this installment as much as the first, with its historical setting and likeable characters. I was not doing well guessing the culprit (typical for me!), and was quite surprised with the unveiling at the end. Well done

How it fits: Vampire Tea Room Magical Mystery #2
Review: I first discovered this series about a year ago but for what ever never got around to moving on with the series after the first book. The main premise of the series is that mina, an American witch has moved to Bath in England after a messy divorce where she does marketing for a Vampire Tea house by day and is attempting to get back to writing however pesky murders keep getting in the way. In this instalment, a guest is murdered whist the tea house is running a regency afternoon tea and Mina needs to solve the murder in three days or else her vampire boss will be arrested by the vampire council. overall I thought the mystery was reasonably clever. I guessed a lot of it buut i still had fin with the story and found the characters coloourful and engaing. i will definitely read further in this series.

It's been awhile since I've read a Nora Roberts novel (other than the great J D Robb procedurals), and couldn't wait to get into this one. Paranormal + Ireland + family = a great read, or at least it normally does. This one just didn't work for me, unfortunately. The main characters of Iona and Boyle were kind of flat; I just couldn't warm up to them. There was no chemistry between them, either, though they were supposedly in love. The paranomal aspects of the story were intense, though; the first couple of chapters about the ancestor, her kids, and the evil one was really compelling, as were the present-day scenes with the villain. I haven't decided if I'm going to continue to the second in the trilogy.

Review: I think I need to be done with zombie novels for awhile. I've read so many of them that I'm beginning to be burnt out by them. Although I rated this a 3, it was more like a 2.5, maybe even a 2 if I'm really honest with myself.
The premise is that everyone over the age of 14 succumbed to a deadly virus and died, but came back as some sort of zombie type monster they call "grown ups". The males and females are called mothers and fathers depending on their gender. After the uprising a bunch of kids took up shelter in a grocery store. A strange kid comes around one day and tells them that their is a safe place at Buckingham palace. Thus everyone sets off for the palace and from then on, it's one battle after another.
Most of it is unimaginable and a bit forgettable. It's kids being ripped apart every other second that you really never had a connection with any of the characters because they were there one minute and gone the next. It got to the point when you lost a character, you didn't really feel anything. Honestly this was such a let down.

Review: During the 4th of July holiday it started snowing, the snow did not stop and the temperatures plummeted to below zero with no end in sight.. The weird part is that this was in Ohio..in the summer. When we last left Grady and his friend Stone they had holed up in a cabin on the lake owned by an older lady named Helga, and a brother and sister that Grady saved, Elanor and Mike, Helga secretly tells Grady that their food supply is lower than what she originally told them. Grady then decides it is up to him to find supplies.
The scary part of all this is that, it's not just the snow they have to deal with. What comes with the snow, are shadows that they call wraiths. These wraiths take on the form of your biggest fears, The only thing that gets rid of them is bright light or fire.
We had a lot of action packed scenes between the characters and these wraiths while trying to survive in the snowpocolyptic nightmare. Some parts were pretty comical and some were downright horribly sad. All in all, this was an excellent read and a much more put together book that the first one was.

He is seriously concerned that some books have been stolen and wants to see what is missing. On his first day on the job Charlie finds his employer dead, and the race is on to find which of his nasty or quirky live-in relatives or employees has done the deed.
After initial sniping Chief Deputy Sheriff Berry asks for Charlie to continue his book inventory so he can keep an eye on the household. Another death complicates matters, and it takes the additional assistance of Sean, Charlie's attorney son, and Maine Coon Diesel, to break the case.
This was a good mystery with a tinge of gothic feel (to this reader, anyway) and a good mix of secondary characters.

Review:
I really enjoyed this instalment and in fact couldn't put it down for the latter half of the story. I thought the mysteryu was clever and while I did guess some aspects of the solution, i still enjoyed the journey and the twists we had within it. I really enjoying these characters also as as the books go further in, i feel like we are really getting to know them better. I think this might be the best instalment so far and can't wait to see what comes next for DC Bellamy.
