The genre is fantasy.
I read this book in around 2017-2019 ish
I read this book when I was younger and I don't have all the details.
It's about a boy who comes home one day and a man is in the house. It turns out the man means no harm. The boy ends up in a school of magic. There he gets a pet no one wanted. It has like spikes, if I remember correctly, so sometimes he gets hurt when playing with it. I remember that the boy ends up seeing the bad guy of the story get resurrected. The boy then goes looking for something and gets it before the villain. But in the end the boy gives the thing to the villain and the villain wins in the story- end of what I can remember.

Small things I remember:
- There's a small village the school can visit,
- There's like a game where the mc and his class ends up beating the higher class in. If I'm not wrong, the game is like football but the ground moves
- The pets I mentioned, everyone gets one at the start of the year
- I think there was an episode on a boat where something happened

The author might have made more books to the series, not sure since I can't remember the name, but that's what I remember.
I know it's not a lot to go after, but I appreciate you guys trying :)
