Well to be fair the only other books I have read from him is Prince of Thorns and the Book of the Ancestor series. Book three of that one would be up there too. Each of his series/worlds is so different. So it makes sense people find different favourites depending on what they like in books.

I've read Thorns, Red Queen, Ancestor, and Ice (but not book 3 yet), as well as this Library one... and my favorite by far is the Thorns books... none of the others has lived up to it for me, and I was just lukewarm on Ancestor--though I know a lot of folks who love Ancestor and Red Queen a lot more, or even hate Thorns... They really are all very different, but still very Lawrence... definitely agree with your analysis.
I enjoyed Prince of Thorns long ago (one of the last books I still read in translation, that's probably why I didn't continue as I wanted English re-read first). Considering my recent discovery of love for fantasy post apocalyptic worlds I really need to get back to it soon. Especially since I am considering Mark Lawrence to be one of my favourite authors.
I hear you! These things pop up in BRs fairly frequently too...
I've read Book of the Ancestor book 1 and 2, really need to read 3 at some point. I absolutely loved those so I think it's probably a case of I just haven't been in the right mood for this one. I'm a huge mood reader so if I'm not feeling it, I'm not feeling it.

I read the book of the Ancestor, the first book of the Book of the ice, the prince of thorns trilogy and the first one in the red Queen. The ones I liked the most were the Ancestor and Thorn books though I want to finish his other series sometime
I usually really enjoy his writing, I think this is a case of 'it's not the book, it's me',
