A book with a redeemable main character? (from hated by readers to likable)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a book whose main character (a young adult still learning, or maybe a late teen) starts as not likable and ends being fine, through redemption, I guess. That's the redeemable part I've been advised to look into.

Sorry I'm not familiar with the genre, I hope this makes sense.
I mean, there's a character, the protagonist, who is not a good guy/gal, and then there's a romance story, and ultimately this main character has changed or at least is understood by the readers who no longer dislike him/her this much.

Anyway, there must be a few books like that, well written, that I would enjoy. Could you recommend me some?
