Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 1251 comments One of our teammates did not show up this week so we are using our free pass so we can roll.
I talked to my Co-Captain & we decided together to go ahead & roll.

Our teammate does have a book that would work on her read Shelf. She also has a book still marked currently reading. If she gets her review in for either of those tomorrow can we have our free pass back?

Also what happens if she doesn't show up next week?

I've given this some thought and I'll have to say no refunds on the free pass under these circumstances. You've made the choice to use it to be able to roll as early as possible, which you are free to do. Whether your team mate posts a review before deadline or not, using the free pass in this instance gives you an advantage over teams still waiting for reviews to come in, so you got something out of it either way.

If she misses deadline this week and doesn't show next week either, you'll have to wait out next week's deadline, then roll. Missing the deadline twice means automatic disqualification, so she'd be off the team.

Kayla (kaylaschwae) | 491 comments Hey! I've checked in with one of my teammates and I'm not entirely sure if she will be posting a review today. I think I'm going to wait to hear a for sure answer. I was going to say that we will use our free pass but I don't see one on our post. Did we not get one? 7 books for 7 readers.

Thank you for your help!

I looked through the time stamps on your team's completion posts and it looks like you definitely earned it, just didn't mention it on the Post Your Spot thread. I'll add the free pass to your thread.

Vi | 624 comments Hi Denise, I wanted to check with you - we forgot to post another bonus point (reading 3 or more books in a series) last week. Can I make another post or just edit the existing post? Also, can we claim two bonus points (different) in a week?

message 56: by Denise, Manufacturing Director (new)

Denise (destiny_chan) | 7414 comments Mod
Edit the existing post, that'll be fine now that I know to check it.

Absolutely, you can claim several different bonus points in the same week!

message 57: by Vi (new)

Vi | 624 comments Thanks Denise! I'll do that.

Either of those is fine. Anything that is largely set in a school or e.g. on a college campus will work.

Vi | 624 comments Denise, another question. For starting and finishing a series bonus, will the novellas also be counted? i.e do I need to read the novellas to claim the bonus or only the main books?

Just the main books will suffice for the bonus.

Celia Buell (semi hiatus) (celiareadsbooks) For alternate #45, does a witch flying on a broom count as transportation - for instance Murder of a Werewolf (Brimstone Witch Mystery #1) by April Fernsby

Thank you.

I'm not sure if the book I've started is ok for this task.
Tokyo Ever After
The book is tagged high-school by 25 people but is not primarily set in school. I'm 60% in book and I don't know if is ok this book or I need to find another book 🙈 but I'm in time to ask it 😅.

I've read that book, so I'm actually puzzled by so many people tagging it high school - from what I remember of it, I'm afraid it doesn't fit the task. 😕

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 1251 comments If we are on #9 does a .9 count for that like a .5 counts for a 5?

I'm on Talen which is a 7.9 of the Dark Protectors Series

message 71: by Denise, Manufacturing Director (new)

Denise (destiny_chan) | 7414 comments Mod
It goes by the number preceding the .5 or in this case .9, so a 7.9 would count as #7.

message 72: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 995 comments For #57 - Seasonal Theme does it have to be centered around a holiday or can it be something like Suddenly Last Summer where a season is in the title?

Or can it be a book that takes place during one specific season even if it doesn't reference it in the title?

message 73: by Denise, Manufacturing Director (new)

Denise (destiny_chan) | 7414 comments Mod
"Takes place during one specific season" is a good way to put it, whether that's a "regular" season like summer or centered around a holiday like Halloween season etc.
A reference in the title isn't required.

Logan (loganturner) | 995 comments Okay, awesome. Thank you!

Yes, only articles are excluded, "of" and "and" count.

It's fine. I ran it through Tineye for a second opinion, according to which it's about 60% blue. Definitely works. :)

No winners yet. A couple of teams are in the 80s this week, so depending on rolls and how many bonus points they have available, we might get a winner next week or more likely several teams battling it out in two weeks. :)

message 84: by Celia (last edited Apr 05, 2023 09:59PM) (new)

Celia Buell (semi hiatus) (celiareadsbooks) For the task set in the future, will this work:

Star Mother (Star Mother, #1) by Charlie N. Holmberg - from the blurb:
The Sun God chooses the village of Endwever to provide a mortal womb. The birthing of a star is always fatal for the mother, and Ceris Wenden, who considers herself an outsider, sacrifices herself to secure her family’s honor and take control of her legacy. But after her star child is born, Ceris does what no other star mother has: she survives. When Ceris returns to Endwever, however, it’s not nine months later—it’s seven hundred years later. Inexplicably displaced in time, Ceris is determined to seek out her descendants.

Most of the book (from 24% to end) takes place in this 700 years later period.

Pallavi | 120 comments I have read book 2, 3, 3.5 of 'mistborn trilogy' series.
Book 1 (which would be a reread) fits the alternate: set between 1600-1837.

Unfortunately it won't work due to the "no re-reads" rule for that bonus point, it applies to all books in the series.

Update: The book has been added at 9:47 pm cst on Friday night. Do i need to reroll?

*** We have a winner!! ***

Congratulations to Team 3 - Serious About Series, who have finished all their reads for spot 101 with plenty of time to spare!

For everyone asking if this means it's the end of the game for everyone: Each team - or each player individually, if opinions differ within teams - is welcome to keep going until they've crossed the finish line. Let me know if you decide to continue! :)
