Anthony | 8 comments Hi, I must have read this in about 1986, it was a line in one of a series of books about a boy and his family, school, life. I think it was a red cover with pencil type illustrations, the headmaster had a moustached and kind of combover, hair, they were quite funny books, and the line that stands out is the headmaster saying to the boy ‘Only potatoes have eyes, boy”

Any help, please, it’s like a brainworm!!

Anthony, I copied book details to the header/ topic title. Feel free to edit it.

Is this series for kids and/or teens?

What is the story's time period and location/ country?

Anthony | 8 comments Hi Kris, thanks.

I read it when I was in Primary School, probably 8 or 9 years old, so around about 1986.

It was English, and set in England. It was for older kids/teens.

The main character was a boy, and it was about his relationship with his family at home, friends at schools, and his headmaster.

It was a series of books, possibly 3, and the covers (paperback) were red or blue.

There were some illustrations inside and on the front cover, but they were kind of pencil illustrations.

It was funny and wry….that’s the only line I can remember from it, I can’t even remember the characters names….

Rainbowheart | 28670 comments It was definitely a day school, not a boarding school?

message 12: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 8 comments Could have been boarding school, but don’t think so

Rainbowheart | 28670 comments Kinda reminds me of Gene Kemp.

Even if it's not one of hers, is that the right vibe?

message 14: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 8 comments Thanks Rainbowheart, it’s not quite there but is along those lines…….plus note, it’s reminded me of The Clocktower Ghost, which I loved, thanks!!
