The use of names in Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia

Did anyone else notice that Emily uses Wendell's name, either his first or last, when her emotions towards him shift?

Several times she will "trash" talk about him and his ego or his idiosyncrasies that annoy her, and she calls him Bambleby, but when she is writing and uses his first name, she is more tender or outright affectionate towards him.

A great example of this is their interaction at the end of Chapter 18th November (156-157 Kindle), when she switches between his names at times. It is almost like there are two sides of his personality that she knows.

After puzzling this out, I went back to see if I had observed this dynamic correctly. When consistently applied that she calls him Wendell when she's sweet on him, and Bambleby when she's cross with him, you can see the relationship developing from academic peers, to friends, to more than friends.
