Josephine Lamont (jlamontbooks) | 1 comments Hi there,

I'm new to the group and I have a quick question. I am a current Goodreads Author (nonfiction) and am starting a new pen name (fiction). I know that, once upon a time, we could manually add our unpublished works to begin creating awareness of the book. Is this still possible? Can you add an unpublished book to Goodreads?

Similarly, can you claim your author profile if your book hasn't been published yet?

Thank you for your help!

Michele | 6349 comments Yes, we can add an upcoming book to Goodreads, but only if you have the ISBN and/or ASIN for it. Ideally you wouldn't request that it be added until fairly close to publication, because we don't want to end up with a bunch of "phantom" books :) You can request that it be added here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... Be sure to read the first post, which tells what information is required. Books can have more than one author name, so if you'll want your new pseudonymous books to also be connected to your existing author page, please make that clear in your Add Book request. See for example https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Emily | 17526 comments You do not have to have the ISBN or ASIN to add the book. We just need an approximate publication date and as many details (title, description, etc) as possible. You would need to add or request to add the ISBN or ASIN as soon as you get it or duplicate records will be imported.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I believe if you will be using a different name for your fiction, you will also need a new profile. A different profile requires a different e-mail address. Since you already have a Goodreads Author profile, you know how the system works to claim a book is yours.

Elizabeth is correct.

Oops, sorry. I thought we had to have that to create a book. My apologies, and thanks Emily for the correction!
