Well now I have to try it too!

Anne | 196 comments Someone on Facebook says it’s The Scandalous Stepmother. I can’t say for sure because I read it a long time ago.

message 103: by Katja (new)

Katja | 439 comments There was a book in which Mr. Bennet was Richard, and Colonel Fitzwilliam was Thomas, and I was like, this is a travesty lol

message 104: by Katja (new)

Katja | 439 comments Colonel Fitzwilliam calls Georgiana Sprout.

message 105: by Linda (new)

Linda | 223 comments I re-read The Scandalous Stepmother, and it was the one with the desk scene I remembered. Thank you to all who searched!

Now I am wondering about another one. In it, both Darcy and Elizabeth are in town when Lydia elopes with Wickham. Somehow, they are compromised and married. When the go to Pemberley, Mrs. Reynolds is rude to Lizzy because she believes it was intentional on her part to compromise Mr. Darcy.

message 106: by Adele (new)

Adele (delbert59) | 59 comments Actually I love these hunts. I always find something new to read or reread. I reread Scandalous Stepmother and enjoyed it more the 2nd time.

I’ve read a few were Mrs. Reynolds is not nice to E but I never saved that as a trope

I think Jessie Lewis has one coming out with that theme

Linda | 223 comments I just noticed on the right side of the screen (I'm on a laptop) it lists all the books and authors tagged in the post. That is really handy.

message 109: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 411 comments This one has Mrs. Reynolds being cold to Elizabeth.
They married in Scotland after being kidnapped. When they reached Pemberley, Darcy was very reserved to Elizabeth and Mrs. R assumed she had compromised him and was disrespectful.

I don't think that is it, as I haven't read it yet. The one I'm think of, they are compromised because Darcy brings Elizabeth in his carriage to recover Lydia, and they are seen. Soon gossip spreads, and they marry.

Ceri | 37 comments Katja wrote: "Colonel Fitzwilliam calls Georgiana Sprout."

I can't remember what book this is but I'm sure I've read it. It made me think of Brussel sprouts, although I'm guessing the author was going with a seedling idea rather than a cruciferous vegetable known for causing wind, LOL

message 114: by Katja (new)

Katja | 439 comments Yeah I meant Sprout as a comment to the discussion about things that happened in several stories. Not looking for a specific book, sorry for any confusion

message 115: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 4 comments A few of us on the P&P FB page are looking for this one:

Caroline is trying to compromise Darcy, yet he runs into Elizabeth's room at Netherfield where she is trying to do up her buttons and he says she's good at that. She may mention in her inter dialog that it being a good time to squeal. It was a funny book, i'm 99% sure it would have been on KU as I rarely read off the forums.

Hmmmm, I don't think it's this one. I'll keep digging.

message 118: by MichelleH (new)

MichelleH H | 130 comments I'm back with another one which is driving me nuts. In this variation, Caroline tries to compromise Darcy and he deliberately waits for Bingley's and Caroline's approach to the room he is in with Lizzy. Then he grabs her and kisses her deeply, and I think he says something like "I'll explain later" or "forgive me." Can't remember which but he said something. Anyway he's claiming he's already engaged to Lizzy. Then they have to work THAT out! Ha.

I hope someone can remember this.

Imperative Vol 1 by Linda Wells starts off in a similar way. Is that the one you are thinking of? If not, please share the name of this one when you find it because it sounds great.

message 120: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 411 comments I was thinking of Imperative: A Tale of Pride and Prejudice, Volume 1 also. That one does not have a compromise from Caroline.

I wonder if it might be So Material a Change: A Pride & Prejudice Variation which has a successful Caroline compromise.

I just reread the beginning of Imperative, Vol 1 and you're right, it is not a Caroline compromise, but Darcy hears Caroline and her sister and brothers bickering outside approaching the library. Imperative is the one.

message 123: by Sam (last edited Apr 23, 2023 01:28AM) (new)

Sam H. | 828 comments As in, they were all colluding together for Caroline to compromise Darcy?
I read the book, but I guess that scene didn't stick with me.

Sorry Sam, I didn't expect to be quizzed on it! I only read the beginning up until Darcy kisses Lizzy by surprise. Then I put it on my reread pile. I'd meant to reread it eventually anyway. I do remember there was something nefarious going on though. I don't think I've ever read a scene like that in another JAFF where Darcy deliberately kisses Elizabeth in front of other people without being bethrothed or married-and in this case to be let it be known that he was taken.

There was another that I recall. He walks right up to her in the library at Netherfield, in front of everyone, apologizes and kisses her!
Can't recall the name of the book tho, so don't quiz me ;)

ROFLOL. Wouldn't that be just the thing. Of course a competently courting Darcy would eliminate so many JAFF tropes hehehe

message 132: by Sam (new)

Sam H. | 828 comments Sure will Michelle!

However, Rose and Jeanne are usually the ones that help me out of a title jam, so I pass the baton to them. Perhaps they can recall the title?

message 133: by Adele (new)

Adele (delbert59) | 59 comments RE: Darcy needing a book. I did read a version where Darcy figures out that E doesn’t really like him at Rosings so he goes to a book store to get a book about how to court a woman. The scenes were hi,raio us both buying the book, (the bookstore owner thought he wanted one of his secret wrapped in brown paper kept in the back type books) and the Colonel caught him reading the book and the advice was ridiculous. At one point he tries to act like Bingley and E thinks he might be losing his mind.
I can’t remember the title but your comments reminded me of it.

message 134: by Sam (new)

Sam H. | 828 comments Adele, that sounds hysterical. It would definitely be a fun read.

Marlee Joy (marleejoyhawkins) | 71 comments Okay, I was needing a little break and just scrolled through this conversation. I love how it started with one book and a characteristic of our flawed hero and flowed quite naturally into another. It was almost like hanging out in a coffee shop and accidentally hearing people talk about old friends. I needed that just now.

I know this isn't the chat for it but last night my book creator crashed and all the progress I have made so far repairing my book (with the assistance of my dear sweet volunteer editor) disappeared. I have the changes on another document, all is not lost. It will just be tedious hours of putting it back and I am frustrated.

I am not trying to advertise it. It really is not ready right now and will not be until maybe summer. I just wanted to vent and say thanks for making me smile on a frustrating day!

Yes, I remember that. She tells him to give that to Charlotte but E thinks it is a bad idea so to prove her wrong he drinks it to prove how wrong they are. The story takes off from there. It is at the very beginning.
