Kristen Wiggins | 2 comments This is kind of an odd sounding book really. The main protagonist is a girl who I believe goes to live with her aunt and cousin. Her cousin ends up giving her some kind of herb that puts her to sleep and rapes her. The aunt tries to get her to forget about or not talk about or something like that. I read this is middle school (which was a bit intense for me at the time), so it was around in the early 2000s at least. Please help, I have looked for it myself on Google to no avail and it's driving me crazy.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Do you remember anything about the cover?
Was the cousin male or female? Age of the cousin?

Time period/location story takes place?
Genre/Tone: Coming-of-age, mystery, serious, etc?

Part of a series?

Aerulan | 1316 comments Well it has an herb name... haven't read it no idea if it fits at all.
I, Coriander

Was the name of the herb in the title the one used to put her to sleep?

ETA Do you know much about plant/herbs? I mean did you recognize it was titled for an herb before reading the book or after? which might say if it a fairly common herb -lavender sage etc that everyone would recognize- or something more obscure?

Diana Welsch | 530 comments Madapple? It was in 2008 so probably too late.

Lark | 69 comments unlikely, but maybe Juniper?

Kristen Wiggins | 2 comments I'm pretty sure it was Madapple. Thank you so much! I was a little off on the title I guess.

Diana Welsch | 530 comments I just read this, and it definitely has the plot points you mentioned. And "madapple" is the name of an herb, also known as jimsonweed,so you were spot on with the title.
