Around the World in 1990s Challenge

So, finally mixed decade and arm chair?
I think including this link in the monthly newsletter would be helpful.

Also, pg count? 200/250+ onwards?
Max cap can be upon the reader, if someone wants to go for tome, they could, I guess?

1. Partners randomly assigned? or we find our partner?
2. Minimum page requirement?
3. 1990s only?

1. Yes, randomly assigned teams. We were thinking of 3 (atleast) per team.
2. @Em, do confirm on this one.
3. Yes, 1990s only.

Yes, they have to try to cover maximum countries in their selected continent.
200-250 page count is good. One can go for tomes but since its a team challenge it could hinder the team progress.

8 people so far, 4 on each team sounds good to me. If more people sign up then we can keep 5 in every team.
200-250. 10 books for 10 yeats and add ten more for the countries, 4-5 books is enough for every team member. Gives a breathing space to read 1-2 other books that one is planning or waiting to read.
1990s, yeah. I keep reading books post 2010s, even after promising myself to explore more books from older decades. So I thought this would give me and hopefully others too a chance to find some gems from those years.

I have added the new names to the first comment.
If you have suggestions, don't hesitate. We can make adjustments to make it more comfortable as well as competitive.

Um, 10 for countries? I thought, whichever team has covered most no.of countries (books published in 1990s) at the end Feb wins.
And 10 books for each year? We're doing specifically decade, as well?
Won't that make searching for books difficult, if each team sticks to a specific continent only?
10 countries was used as an example. You interpreted it perfectly. You have to cover the most number of countries to win. :)
No, one book per year. I will edit that comment. Looks like am sleepy. ;)

1 continent

1990s decade - meaning 10 books to be read per team?"
you have to pick one continent, 10 books must be read covering each year of 1990-99, that means you are covering 10 countries and after that you can try to read as many books as possible with other countries as the setting. Like Asia has 48 countries, Europe has 44, Africa has 54, South America has 12, and North America has 49 states (as per Google), so to win the challenge you have to read atleast 10 books released in 1990-99, and then you have to focus on covering maximum number of states,
For winning the challenge I will see both conditions are met. Suppose if Team covered 25 states of their selected continent but was not able to read 97 (an example) you're not winning.
Does that make sense? Hope I have not make rules more confusing again... :)

Or you'll consider only one of them?
both will be counted but when we are counting how many countries are visited they'll be counted as 1.

I was looking for books, Europe and North America books are easy to find. Asia, Africa, and South America are not that easy... but let's see what others say.

I think we should start with Europe so we can find titles easier and then move on to other countries if we are done with our allotted years.
{this is my first time, if that violates any rules. please tell me.}

So what you are starting your challenge with?
I am starting with Sophie's World.
And I have added the link to excel sheet in the first post of this thread to keep track of our books. Hope everyone have a hotmail account.

I'm starting Vertigo by W. G. Sebald

That'll be great!

I'm currently caught up with another book. Just few pages into We Need to Talk About Kevin.
Once this is done, maybe I'll pick up Blindness for the Decade Challenge.

Yea I finished reading a book.

The spreadsheet is for both the teams :)

Manju, would you please add this link in your first message? thanks!
