I'm planning to read this one for next month's theme. :) I can't wait. Everyone I know that has read it loved it.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I made a decision.

I will start Good Girl, Bad Blood on kindle tonight, and will start Later Gator on audiobook tomorrow. That series always has me laughing. I'll see what mischief these characters get up to.

Kristie | 19143 comments Those should both be good, Janice.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Reading for my courses is taking most of my reading time, so I haven't get to a just-because read in a while. I'm reading one short story everyday during breakfast from The Big Book of Ghost Stories. I'm loving the selection so far.

message 606: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments That's a great idea, Sandra. Short stories is a good way to inject some "me" time into a busy schedule.

Kristie | 19143 comments I'm currently reading four books.

Check & Mate - I'm about 50% through. I'm enjoying it so far. I was suppose to read this for review before publication, but got derailed with a migraine.

Fourth Wing - I'm at 83% in this one and it's really good. I was hesitant to read it because fantasy isn't always my favorite genre, but I'm enjoying the story a lot.

A Brighter Flame - Group themed read. I'm at 83% in this one too and loving it as well. It's an interesting story about family relationships. I think this is the first thing I've ready by Christine Nolfi.

The Heiress - Just started. I'm late for a buddy read because I was still reading all the other books.

My reading has taken a hit this month due to the long-term migraine I had. I haven't finished a book yet this month, but I'm finally making some progress. Once I finish up these four, I'll settle back into my two at a time (1 audio, 1 physical).

PattyMacDotComma Water. We begin life in water, we are made up mostly of water, we play and exercise and refresh ourselves in water. The protagonist in award-winning Irish author John Boyne's new novel is both drawn to it and repelled by it. I'm biased - I always love his work. 😊

If I were you I'd read Check & Mate to the 83% mark to have all the books aligned. :)

It is. And I'm also getting better at reading short stories, which usually are not may first choice.

Mine either. I tend to read a few stories and then stop. I have a few that I own that I need to get to.

I feel like this is the way to go. lol I was surprised when I looked and saw the other two were the same. I even had to recheck it to make sure I didn't accidentally look at the wrong one.

Margo | 11629 comments Just finished The Marriage Act. Disappointed that it didn't live up to its potential. Started Wolfsong last night and I'm loving it so far.

message 617: by Saar The Book owl (last edited Nov 21, 2023 03:24AM) (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments @Kristie: it's a light read, with some twists and of course the cats and dolphins. It has an Indiana Jones vibe, a Jambes Bond vibe with a bit of Gru from Despicable Me. And you will laugh a lot ;)

@Esther: have you read The Kaiju Preservation Society? I think you'll enjoy it too.

message 618: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Thanks, Saar. Sounds fun! :)

message 620: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I finished Later Gator and had some good chuckles and laughter. That trio sure get themselves into some pickles. Can you even befriend an alligator?

I will start The Shadows either tomorrow or the next day and try to finish it for the monthly challenge.

I'll be interested to see how you get on with that Janice, I've been tempted by it a few times.

message 624: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11629 comments I finished Wolfsong and wasn't that keen on it. It was ya plus some very grapic sex scenes which seemed to go forever.

Moved on to Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers.

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I am not reading much at the moment. Covid killed my sleeping pattern and I am so tired at night that I read one paragraph over and over. And when I have free time during the day I am in a knitting.
But I started The Narrow Road Between Desires, which is a novella in the world of The Kingkiller Chronicle. It describe "a day in the life of Bast"
Cute so far.

I have an hour left. I'm on the fence about it to tell you the truth. I'm interested in how it ends because what they just revealed doesn't make sense.

message 629: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11629 comments Hmm, thanks Janice, think I'll take it off my wishlist. I was wavering!

Just finished Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers and I really enjoyed it. It's a cosy murder mystery set in Chinatown, Florida. Just what I was in the mood for.

Moving on to The Stranger Upstairs which tooks far from cozy!

I've decided to go back to what's tried and tested, and read My Bonny Light Horseman: Being an Account of the Further Adventures of Jacky Faber, in Love and War. I wonder what Jacky has been up to.

I was reading something where a person was knitting the other day (the sound of the needles clicking) and I thought of you, Esther. I felt my fingers tingling too. I haven't knitted in a long while.

I just started reading Hercule Poirot's Christmas for my yearly challenge.

PattyMacDotComma I just enjoyed The Mystery Writer by one of my favourite authors, Aussie Sulari Gentill. This one has a couple of Aussie characters in the US, caught up in murder, conspiracies and preppers. Good stuff!

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I'm reading My Bonny Light Horseman: Being an Account of the Further Adventures of Jacky Faber, in Love and War on audiobook, and A Sheriff in Nevada on ebook.

Cool story - I play games on It's Your Turn site, and was playing a game with a JT Hume. I kept thinking the name was familiar so I searched it on Goodreads. He's an author here! We've been chatting ever since, and I'm now reading his book.

Kristie | 19143 comments I've started The Charisma Myth for the monthly challenge. Not sure if I'll be able to finish it all tomorrow, but I'm going to try. I have the audio and it's quite interesting, so I may try to read the physical book some time, probably next year.

Interesting tidbit - I thought it was a peacock on the cover, but it's actually a chicken with peacock tail feathers.
