Damo | 161 comments The Elvis Cole series is one of my favourites, so it was great to see a new entry late last year. Not the absolute best, in my opinion but still worthy of picking up and enjoying.

The Torrent (Detective Kate Miles #1) by Dinuka McKenzie 4★ My review of The Torrent

Rat Pack #4. Las Vegas, 1962. Dean Martin asks Eddie to take care of Marilyn Monroe. So he does. I'm reading the series in order and I think this might be my favorite. I really enjoyed it. 4 stars.

Good thriller. Fun twist: Joe can 'talk' (by way of his thoughts).

Definitely not my favorite book by this author, but it's still a fun read. I really enjoyed her novel The Album -- pretty much everyone is a suspect in that one.

Araych | 676 comments Blackout Blackout by Simon Scarrow by Simon Scarrow

Berlin, 1939. A German detective is assigned to investigate a group of serial killings. A good plot, good characters and story line but the book reminds one of the superior Bernie Gunther series by Philip Kerr. I liked this book OK but the Kerr series is written at a higher level and is highly recommended.

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Now starting THE INK BLACK HEART by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling), the sixth book in the ongoing Cormoran Strike mystery series.

At 1012 pages in hardcover, this one is going to take a while to get through. But the previous novel was 900+ pages and so good that I tore through it very quickly. Hopefully this one will be just as engaging.
