Jack of Spies
by David DowningIt's 1915 and Jack McColl, a Scottish car salesman and wanna-be spy is sent by British intelligence to China, Mexico and the US in search of German spies and saboteurs. This is the first of a 4 part series and I loved it -- great plot, characters and period detail. 5 stars, highly recommended.
Crook Manifesto
by Colson WhiteheadIn this book - which is darkly funny - Pulitzer Prize winner Whitehead immerses us in the ambiance of Harlem in the 1970s. The book revolves around Ray Carney, a furniture store owner and fencer of stolen goods who strives to be upwardly mobile.
Very good book. 4 stars

The Watchmaker's Hand by Jeffery DeaverJeffery Deaver - Wow - what a book!! Here's my 5 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
It was fun to eavesdrop on two old gentlemen comparing ghost stories from their schooldays. A School Story by M.R. James took place in 1870 but could easily be a contemporary plot.
My review of A School Story with a link to where it is free to read online
Baumgartner is a man widowed too young who wonders if he has a future. Acclaimed American author Paul Auster gives us Baumgartner's sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, always realistic musings. Excellent.
My review of Baumgartner
