Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia, helps investigate a high tech murder.

Very current themes in this book. This is an uptick in the series, which had been waning for a while. 3 stars

Sam McCain #3....... 1959, Iowa. The Red Scare comes to small town Iowa and people are getting killed. Judge Esme puts Sam on the case. Very enjoyable light mystery, well constructed with lots of 1959 touches. I like the series a lot, this one gets 4 stars.

PattyMacDotComma | 920 comments Water. We begin life in water, we are made up mostly of water, we play and exercise and refresh ourselves in water. The protagonist in award-winning Irish author John Boyne's new novel is both drawn to it and repelled by it. I'm biased - I always love his work. 😊

I'll just say that it's one thing to express your dislike of an author's work, and it's another altogether to say that someone's reading likes are "crap."

Araych | 676 comments The Other Side of Silence The Other Side of Silence (Bernie Gunther, #11) by Philip Kerr by Philip Kerr

Bernie Gunther #11, series probably best read in order. This is another very fine entry in the series. Bernie is working in a hotel on the French Riviera and gets unwillingly involved in a complicated blackmail and murder situation involving a very famous author. The plot and action flow smoothly as we again root for Bernie to come out alive. 4 stars.
