This is the second in The Edge series, and I liked this more than it's predecessor. It's not necessary to read the debut novel before this one.

message 2107: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 1 comments Just finished and reviewed a book Thomas Perry wrote several years ago, "Silence." He wrote the Jane Whitefield series, which I liked, and this seemed to be the first in a planned series, with a main character who, like Whitefield, helps people in distress disappear.
The writing was good and the premise was terrific - when someone is accused of murdering a woman the MC helped disappear, he has to find her and get her to prove she's still alive, while a pair of assassins are on their trail. Unfortunately, it was just too long, too much irrelevant backstory and I was really skimming by the end.

This doesn't feel like a pure urban fantasy, but more like a crime caper overlaid with some fantasy elements.

Cormoran Strike #7. 945 pages, 2.5 inches thick, weighs 2 pounds, 10 oz. Sorry, that's a commitment I'm not willing to make. I've read all the previous books in the series, liked them a lot, but I just don't have the days and days to spend on one book. 3 stars. I liked it but ........

Finished The Lost Gallows and I'll be moving on to The Four False Weapons, the last of the Bencolin series. I really enjoyed the first two, then The Corpse in the Waxworks, but I didn't like Lost Gallows nearly as much as those three. I'm hoping that the British Library publishes Four False Weapons because all I have is an old paperback that won't look as nice while standing on the shelves with the rest of the books.
