PattyMacDotComma | 920 comments David Nicholls is so good at showing awkward relationships where each person of a couple blows hot and cold at different times. One Day is St Swithin's Day, when a boy and girl, later as man and woman, plan to stay in touch or meet each year through their lives.

One Day by David Nicholls My review of One Day

Thomas (tom471) | 2004 comments I read Wally Funk's Race for Space: The Extraordinary Story of a Female Aviation Pioneer I strongly recommend this book. It is not a mystery but the story of an amazing woman who was a trailblazer for women astronauts. My 5 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 286 comments Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Magic Bites

After reading the second installment of Kate Daniels: The Wilmington Years, I just had to do a re-read of the series. I found this audiobook version for Kate Daniels #1 made by Graphic Audio which uses a full cast to "perform" / read the book and includes sound effects.

87th Precinct #28. Carella and Kling find themselves in the middle of a gang war in the middle of winter. I've read several in the series and this one is not at the top of the heap -- a good deal of the book is taken up by the voice of the president of one of the gangs so not much suspense. 3 stars.

Christine Mathieu | 583 comments I finished 91 books so far, but will reach less than 140 planned books this year in the reading challenge, because we'll get a visitor from Germany in October.

Have finished "Rebecca's Tale" by Sally Beauman (a prequel to "Rebecca"). Now I started "Rebecca" by Daphne DuMaurier and plan to read "Mrs. de Winter" by Susan Hill next.

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Now starting SHE'S LEAVING HOME, the first novel in the Breen & Tozer mystery series by William Shaw. The book is set in 1968 where a dead woman's body is found in the shadow of the Beatles' recording studio on Abbey Road. I'm enjoying it a lot so far and I may start looking for the other novels in the series.

PattyMacDotComma | 920 comments I recently enjoyed the seventh adventure with Master Mercurius (now Doctor, thank you very much!) in the Netherlands, 17th century. This time, author Graham Brack has him investigating a 'locked-room' Murder In Maastricht where he is supposed to be engaged in a debate about witches. An impossible crime scene? Witches?

I finished reading Pain Killer: A "Wonder" Drug's Trail of Addiction and Death by Barry Meier after having watched the short series on Netflix of the same name. I didn't realize that the book was written in 2003, and as such, was very likely well ahead of its time in reporting about the Sacklers and the Oxy addiction issue.

This book started with author James Fell's anecdotes on his Facebook page, called 'On This Day in History Shit Went Down.' The book is absolutely hilarious, but also disturbing. That's because human history is full of f**king terrible behavior.

Very entertaining and informative. 4.5 stars

I'm hoping to finish It Walks by Night today -- we're in for a bit of rain today so I'll have time to sit and read. So far, I'm enjoying it enough that I'll be starting Carr's Castle Skull as soon as I finish this one.

By the way -- I seem to have an extra copy of It Walks by Night (Poisoned Pen Press) if anyone would like it, and somehow I have an extra copy of The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly if someone would like that one. Free to you, US only and I'm beyond happy to pay postage.
