Now Will be starting on these books

A thriller, not a mystery. Takes place in an alternate Los Angeles in 1958. Joseph McCarthy is President and anti-Semitism is everywhere. Jewish LAPD detective Morris Baker is called to the scene of a double murder. As he investigates the case he meets Russian spies, secret police, Humphrey Bogart, Werner Von Braun, Edward R. Morrow and many others. Very interesting idea for a novel but not written at a very high level. This is Weiss' first book; I'm sure the next will be better. I'm thinking we'll see more of Detective Baker.

I read Deaver's 2004 stand alone novel GARDEN OF BEASTS earlier this year and really liked it. So I thought I would try out his newest series and see how it stacked up.

That was sad news, for sure. I love his writing, most especially Blood Meridian, from which, by the way, someone has decided to try to make a film. I don't know how that would work, but the book was beyond excellent; definitely NOT for the fainthearted.

Jack and Maggie Starr #3. Fascinating murder mystery set in the world of comic book publishing in New York, 1954. I'm a big fan of Collins' work -- always impeccably researched and well written, but very accessible. Highly recommended, 4 stars.

The "movie" has been in development for years. Ridley Scott was attached to it for a while as I recall. I can see it getting made although I have no idea what kind of audience it would draw. Paul Thomas Anderson would be a great pick to get it done, if he could make it as good as There Will Be Blood. Maybe Daniel Day-Lewis as The Judge...?

He's quite acting permanently, unfortunately

In this addition to the comical 'Stephanie Plum' cozy mystery series, the bail enforcement agent has to rescue Connie Rosolli, the office manager of Vinnie's Bail Bonds.
Fun cozy mystery. 3 stars

Everything I'd read about this film says that McCarthy was going to write the screenplay, but obviously now they'll have to find someone else.

Whoever plays the Judge might want to come equipped with a full-time therapist.

Definitely. Even reading that novel I had more than my fair share of bourbon. Sheesh!
