Yup, I'm over 100 pages in and it has fully entrapped me. Now will the pace and engagement keep steady for me to complete?
I recently completed "The Dragon and the George" by Dickson an enjoyable fantasy romp.
Other books this year:
"A Boy and His Dog and the End of the World"
"Acid for the Children" Flea (non-fantasy but surprisingly excellent.
"The Last Days of John Lennon" - I know not fantasy but if you are a Beatles fan a must-read.
"Kindred" - Hugo Award Winner - I love the time travel mechanism the author uses. Less historical fiction and more survival when you think about it.

I liked that one, and you're welcome! The Wars of Light and Shadow is her best series. That starts with The Curse of the Mistwraith. If you find that one you might want to snag it!

After reading the second installment of Kate Daniels: The Wilmington Years, I just had to do a re-read of the series. I found this audiobook version for Kate Daniels #1 made by Graphic Audio which uses a full cast to "perform" / read the book and includes sound effects.

Nice!

I'm also reading through the new Tuyo World Companion at the same time, and that's fun. Lore about the different peoples, maps, etc.

Anyhoo, now reading NK Jemison's The City We Became.

Definitely looking forward to some fictional horror in the fall, as a change of pace.
Ugh, I've never wanted anyone to mention tongues in mouths to me, even when it was the person I. Ugh. I can't even say it.
Fevered Star is high on my list!

I just finished the second one! It has such a unique world.

Fevered Star is high on my list!"
I know, right? Hence the spoiler tag 😂
Oh, and that was one of the more mild descriptions, I might add. But definitely giggle worthy.

Yes, Renée Raudman was a great narrator of Ilona Andrews's Kate Daniels series, but GraphicAudio made a really good version of Magic Burns Dramatized Adaptation : Kate Daniels 2 (Kate Daniels.

I also recently read Little Eyes by Samantha Schweblin which was a very interesting look at the impacts of a new technology around the world, while also being a interesting look at humanity in general. It was a little more grim that I wanted it to be, but that was okay and felt fitting. You follow multiple story lines, some throughout the the book and some for only one chapter.
Still making my way through Saga by Brian K Vaughan. Now on Saga, Volume 7. I’m also about halfway though A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki, which is on my TBR Challenge. It’s not really fantasy, though it has some fantastical elements. I’m still not sure what I think of it.
I’m also a member of the Black Sun / Fevered Star fan club - can’t wait for the third book to come out!

Ha ha ha! Yup, I know exactly what you mean. It was also a 3 star rating from me. I understand where the hype is coming from, though.

😂😂😂

But . . . is this really hard science fiction or is this historical fiction? In fact, something very big, very bad, and extremely radioactive (think Chernobyl level) did happen in this place. The setting and the background are all real. Definitely read the author's note at the end. Information can also be found in references, e.g. Ecocide in the USSR: Health And Nature Under Siege (see pp 174-175) and online, although I am careful about internet material on topics like this. Pulley is clear in her note that only the characters and the specific research are fictional. So, I go with historical fiction, which only makes it more horrifying. Very much worth reading.

Hooray for some good news! Reading will be there when life lines back up for you. Good luck to your family!

Yay!

I'm glad to hear your dad is home. I hope he makes a quick and good recovery.
I liked White Fang!

Here I am on a real computer reading posts and lo, and behold, your post contains more than just "Finished"! On the app, if I go back to the list of notifications and click on it again, then I can see the cover image and click on it to see what you read, but I had no idea you actually wrote anything after that.
I hate to ask, but I would really like to read your posts more regularly. Could you not use the cover image in your post or leave it till the end?
That book sounds very interesting.

Sure! It never occurred to me that putting the cover there would create a problem. I'll just go with the link at the start.
I hope you find that it is a good read.

Thanks! It's merely an app problem, and as much as I know the app sucks, I still use it 80% of the time.

Goodreads always gotta be improving everything. >_>

I just find it super annoying. Anyway - I didn't mean to derail this thread with that, I just get triggered by the terrible app and how bad it is at actually allowing people to use this site in a functional way. LOL

Edit to add: this is only really annoying when searching multiple books in a row. Either you have to go back to a non-bookpage page, or use the stupid icon to open the search and THEN search, because that's WAY more efficient. GAH!

Yes, to all of this!

That's legit! I totally understand ^^ But places like Amazon only notice dollars, so if we want this website to work we gotta find a way to get attention.
Otherwise, please remember we have a Discord server and are preparing for LibraryThing and TheStoryGraph should those be more amenable to us all :D
