YA, probably printed 60s-80s. I read it in the 90s.
Main character is a girl, about middle school age, possibly new to school? She has trouble fitting in with the group of popular girls. She has a crush on a boy classmate who plays soccer. She describes him as having ‘knobby knees’. He might be a neighbor? She and her crush work on a school project together. I think it’s a diorama? They do something about Indians because they have found some relics near their home. When they turn in their project, something happens to it; I think the popular girls destroyed their diorama.
