We’re not super active and I’m probably not the best moderator, but thanks for introducing yourself to the group! Maybe I’ll take your lead and add a place for introductions here when I have the time.
I know for myself relearning our histories can be very hard, so please take it slow and make sure you have some good ways to take care of yourself when you need to—(and never forget there was, is, and will always be indigenous joy)—that’s something I wish I had been told myself when I started diving back into my ancestral history.

HII! Im lakota and… when I was looking for groups to join, I really couldn’t find any talking about indigenous books…anything of the sort. This is the only one I’ve found so far! Very happy that i did tho

Tau kena Mabrika, Eliyah! I'm very glad you came across this group :) I made it for that same reason. While I can't designate a lot of my time to managing it or making it more interesting/active--it was my hope to simply create the group so that other indigenous people like myself could feel seen and find some books by/for indigenous peoples :)

Hello! I'm grateful for the invitation to join the group despite being non-Native. In fact, my interest lies in the crossover in storytelling among cultures. I researched a topic with care and respect, uninvited and with no inside guides or coaches, despite efforts to find some. As a non-fiction historical bio told in montage, a timeline, unarchived photos and brief essays, the topic may appear to be a rehash of old news for those who have lived it. It was new news to me! My debut book as co-author/illustrator is a non-fiction biography of a resilient Lakota woman in tragic circumstance who lived and died long ago, and whose tale deserves telling, even if a century "too late". My creative partner, a Nebraska-born singer-songwriter, also non-Native, wrote a beautiful tribute song to Zintkála Nuni. Together we have tried to create empathy while educating. I welcome honest feedback and am especially curious to see how this book, based on a short animated film we also produced, will be received by Native Americans. Non-Natives . . . you too! My name is Okaliito, reconnecting yoreme-mayo living in the Bay Area. I got back into reading last summer after checking out 'Goddess of Filth' by V. Castro. Since then I have been focused on reading fantastical fiction by BIPoC authors. I have not read much non-fiction since college so my contributions will be in the realm of fiction. Still, I look forward to reading everyone's thoughts and to check out the groups bookshelf.
