Great idea, Jackie! It keeps your options open and doesn't hold you to just one book.

I like your list. I have Murder in the Marais but haven't read it, which is silly because when I visited my brother in Paris (good grief 20 years ago), he lived in the Marais. Sigh.

In Cold Blood is good -- groundbreaking journalistically speaking because it was allegedly the first "nonfiction novel," although I think Somerset Maugham got there first. :)

Thanks, Alondra. I did this to make sure that I am reading a variety of books.

In Cold Blood..."

I hope to get to the Marais in April. I read the Capote book in the early 70s, but I decided it was time for a reread.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments Interesting way of picking books, I've read two, the Bachman books and In Cold Blood, liked the former, didn't like the latter (which was more annoying as I'd spent ages getting hold of a copy!)

I like how you've broken down your list. On the Beach ranks up there as one of my all-time favorite books. Nevil Shute is a wonderful story teller. I hope to finally start the Cara Black books in 2023 too. Enjoy your 2023 selections, Jackie.

I agree that if you have spent some effort in getting a book, you really want it to be good!

One of the things I remember about On the Beach is the use of the T. S. Eliot poem:

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
Not with a bang
But a whimper.

Considering I read this book in the 60s, it really has remained in my mind.

I've read a few times over the years and also have enjoyed the movie based on the book.

Jackie | 1103 comments I haven't seen the movie, Bill. Looks like google search time is near.

It always is a good sign when the books you choose are ones that others liked.

Patricia | 1139 comments Love your variety! The only one I've read is Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer. Priscilla Shirer is a great teacher. I'll be looking to hearing your thoughts on all the others.
Happy Reading!

message 19: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1103 comments Patricia, I have taken one of Priscilla Shirer's courses and I loved The War Room movie. I look forward to reading the book.
