Ask for help, if things work, or complain about the gamemaster here.

C.E.C. (milanesa) | 32 comments Just a little question: in the "23 books of a same genre" category, are we supposed to read standalone novels and such, or can we read trilogies and sagas, like, say, the full Hainish Cycle?

As I understand the suggestion, it can be any 23 of the same genre, to include trilogies, stand alones, whatever all you like.

C.E.C. (milanesa) | 32 comments In the "Speaking My Language" section, is the book meant to be read in English or can it be read in the actual original language? Like, I'm a Spanish speaker, and I usually make it a point to read Spanish written books in the original language; would that be alright?

If you can read in the original language, go for it. I certainly won't make things harder for the multilingual.

Dawn | 1246 comments I'm struggling with the last 2 books on this reading challenge. Does anyone know:
a sci-fi or fantasy book set in South America?
A sci-fi or fantasy book set in the Spring?
Thanks in advance x

I found this GR List: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

And when I googled, I found complaints for the lack of South American fantasy and SF.

Maybe Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer, according to the list. I read City of Nightmares by her and loved it but it's not set in SA.

Is it Colombia that has a tradition of magical realism? I can't remember for sure.

Some Rick Riordan books take place in spring, where the summer solstice spells doom.

C.E.C. (milanesa) | 32 comments Colombia sure does, and there are a few from other countries. The magical realism works that come to mind are, of course, García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude and Allende's The House of the Spirits. You could also look up books by Mariana Enríquez (Argentina), Hugo Correa (Chile), Liliana Bodoc (Argentina), and Agustina Bazterrica (Argentina), can't ensure you'll find English editions however, although Enríquez did enjoy some good popularity a few years, I believe.

Also, question of my own: would you all say The Man in the High Castle counts for the "fantasy or sci-fi book inspired by a historical event"?

I would say so.
