Vicki Willis | 871 comments Where They Lie by Joe Hart Where They Lie

Starting mid March

Read at your own pace and use spoiler tages.

The murder of an influencer’s family exposes the disturbing secrets behind the facade in a haunting novel of suspense by Joe Hart, Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Or Else.

Family is content for Kaylee Volk. Her vlogs celebrate a happy home with her husband and their three foster children, Bethany, Mason, and Andrea. Everything is perfect until the day the family’s private plane plummets into the ocean. Only Kaylee manages to survive—with a shocking revelation: Andrea did it.

This is particularly devastating for Nora McTavish, a child protective services agent who is already familiar with Andrea’s troubled history. Given Nora’s own traumatic childhood, how could she not have sensed the profound darkness festering within the girl? What did she miss? Could she have stopped Andrea?

As Kaylee struggles to cope with the crushing loss, Nora’s investigation begins. But her guilt soon turns to unease. Secret by secret, Nora pieces together a Volk family puzzle that’s more twisted than anyone saw—one far from the picture-perfect life Kaylee sold to the public. And the closer Nora looks, the more disturbing it gets.

Vicki Willis | 871 comments Whoops! I forgot about this one for a minute.
Anyone else ready to read?
I am going to start tonight.

Vicki Willis | 871 comments I started this and read about 10%.
The beginning chapter was quite exciting.

NOT a spoiler...
I have a question about the pod cast sections.
It says Kaylee (OS) - what does that mean? And why does it put her name before every paragraph? Is that just how you write a pod cast transcript?

I don't have this one, but it looks interesting. I've never read anything by Joe Hart. Only Or Else has made it onto my TBR so far. I'll be interested to see what you think of it.

Tasha I have it but can't start until early next week. Still working on our read of The Ferryman. I will pop in one I get going. Thanks for the reminder!

Vicki Willis | 871 comments I finished it. Thought it was great! Loved the characters.
I need to go back and write my review. The ending was not what I expected.

Tasha Great to hear! I am still moving through The Ferryman but will get to this one as soon as possible.

message 10: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I can finally get this one started this weekend! I'm looking forward to it, esp since it seems to be a quick, short read. At least I am sure it will feel that way following on the heels of The Ferryman! lol

Vicki Willis | 871 comments Ok good Tasha!
I think it will be fast paced for you. I can't wait to see what you think.

Tasha Vicki, you ae right, this one moves very quickly. I'm already 30% in and only picked it up twice so far. I'm enjoying it and will likely be finished in a couple of days.

I'm thinking the (OS) stands for On Screen? It's vlogging so there is a lot of on screen time. That's my take anyway.

I'm in chapter 11 (view spoiler) I'm definitely curious to see where this goes. So far, it's a good story, hooking me in and keeping me interested with good, fast pacing.

Tasha I finished this one the other day and overall I enjoyed it. My first by the author and I would definitely give him another try. I see this one is a first in a new series so I would be up for trying the next one. I didn't love it but I thought the pacing was good, the characters were fine and the situations were not over the top so in that respect it worked pretty well for me. The MC was believable and seemed interesting enough. 3.5 rounded up to 4 for GRs.
