Well, I finally started! I LOVED this opening chapter! The atmosphere was perfectly gothic and spooky and I already feel very invested in poor Mary Yellan. Aside from there being no story had she done so, I was really hoping she would stay in Bodmin with the kindly woman! I read that the opening of Jamaica Inn is very reminiscent of the opening of Dracula and, though I haven’t read Dracula since I was a teenager, it definitely has parallels to it! I can’t wait to read more.
