Saryon | 7 comments Hello everyone,

Since I've been searching for a long time for this book / series without results, I thought I'd give it a try here.

Please note that I recall very little of the details of the story...

Story:
If I remember correctly, the story is about a boy and his brother (or friend) (and possibly a sister) setting off on an adventure to find magic items / stones to help end a certain war between his country and some neighboring country (or invaders).
It might start off with the boy going hunting and getting hit by a poisonous arrow that hinders him throughout the series.

These items / stones are special as they give the wielder magic powers, and they're different in colors (e.g. red, black, blue, white, ...). I think there are 7, but not sure.

While travelling, he encounters other people who join his group. Each member of the group eventually finds a magic item/stone (one color per member). The main character finds his magic item/stone as last, but it's the most powerful one. His color is white (his brother/friend's color is red) and it's engraved in a sword or something like that.

They find the sword in some kind of mountain which is populated by the enemy (or some other bad guy).

That's about it I think. I'm pretty certain it's a series, but I might be wrong obviously.

When:
I read the series when I was a teenager, so around 1998, 1999

Reading level:My guess would be young adults to adults

Genre:Fantasy, Magic, Epic

Thanks in advance!

Saryon

Hmm, it's not this one unfortunately. I read the introduction, and it doesn't ring a bell. I will probably read it as well, since it looks interesting.

Thanks though! :)

Saryon | 7 comments Hmm unfortunately not, but it looked like it might have been that one, lots of resemblances with what I wrote.

Thanks though!

SparksofEmber | 957 comments I haven't read them but maybe:
The Book of Three (The Chronicles of Prydain)
The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time series)
Pawn of Prophecy (The Belgariad series and its sequel, the Mallorean series)

Michele | 2488 comments Not Prydain or Wheel of Time, I've read those and there aren't any colored stones. This post has some similarities to yours and the solution was Circle of Three.

Saryon | 7 comments @SparksofEmber THanks for the suggestions, but unfortunately, it's not one of those.

@Michele Circle Of Three did resemble, untill I read more and it seems it wasn't that one either.

Cheers for all the suggestions though :D

Ayshe | 4720 comments The Lightstone by David Zindell maybe? It is published in 2001 though.

In The Lightstone, Valashu Elahad earns the secret enmity of a fallen angel known as Morjin. One day while Val is out hunting in the woods, one of Morjin’s men fires off an arrow poisoned with kirax. Although the arrow only scratches Val’s side, the kirax will burn in his blood with an evil fire that will torment him forever.

Ayshe | 4720 comments You're welcome! I was looking at story-identification questions on scifi.stackexchange.com for seventh sons and found this books mentioned and I think I've read another topic (maybe on another site) searching for it (or similar book), but can't find it now and it's bugging me :)

El | 502 comments Glad you found your book, Saryon. This thread should be changed to say "Solved", not "Query Abandoned by Poster" which can be done on the desktop version of GR (not the phone app). The Abandoned threads are for posters who have given up hope of finding their book. (Just a helpful "housekeeping" tip :) )
